I really like how you talked about not being afraid to stay loose in the beginning stages. Knowing that the artwork doesn’t have to look finished and neat in every stage is very useful.

It's a treat to see a no nonsense, yet streamlined take from someone with years in the business discuss this kinda thing. There's a lotta good artists doing tutorials on YT, but it's all very clickbaity and not all that informative when they're just giving you a bullet-point strategy with no actual insight.

Thank you so much for this! I love your approach so much; it's simple but the result is such amazing and visually beautiful works. I often want to draw but get so overwhelmed with the whole piece that I don't know where to start. Your method is formulaic, almost scientific, but still maintains the freedom and art of the drawing process. I think I will come back to this video a lot so I'm timestamping the steps :) : Composition 1:20 ; 8:12 Thumbnail 3:10 Base drawing 10:35 Local colour 14:22 Shadows 20:28 & Light 27:11 Details 33:32 ; 41:02 ; 44:02 Summary 45:23

While compared to grass concrete is almost like at the other end of the spectrum due to how you can do almost anything with it when it comes to more abstract structures trying to simulate natural elements. It would be something that comes down to the looping conflict between the natural and unnatural which is a concept that I’ve always been obsessed with as an artist! :)

The work on the foreground grass was just another painting with the base shadows taking their real meaning with all the grass layered atop them, dark and light, one layer at a time, that's the secret !

Sorry Aaron. I was just a little frustrated. I just can't figure out how to draw my charecters the right size. I tried to draw loose. To not worry so much about getting every contour line. I feel like I'm doing the same thing expecting different results. I almost always draw the head to big leaving not enough room for the body.😞
@jarosbodytko6462
@jarosbodytko6462 2 жыл бұрын
@@richardbaker112 sounds to me like you’re drawing the head first, go into detail and then move on to the rest of the body. Don’t do that. Just start by lightly sketching the full figure first, no details, just basic shapes for the body. After that you can start focusing on the separate parts like the head.
@richardbaker112
@richardbaker112 2 жыл бұрын
@@jarosbodytko6462 so just draw the shape of the head and the shape of the body. Don’t go into the details of the head immediately. Am I right? I try not to go into the details of the head until I get the shape of the body down however, I still make the head to big sometimes. I can’t seem to visualize how big I think the body will be if I put in the shape of the head down first therefore, the body’s to big or off the page somewhat. Also what about gesture?
