6 Forgotten Wargames to Play in 2024!

I own War in the Pacific - Admiral's Edition and it is just so huge. The main campaign is, IMO, almost unmanageable. The required time commitment is certainly months if not years to finish it. I got burned out after some 6 weeks that was 2 years ago. I have an itch to take it up again, but it is just so huge and overwhelming with the level of detail and things to learn, consider and work on. The game does provide other scenario's that are less big though. But the learning curve is very steep in whatever scenario you start with. There are some good mods (especially for the map) and tools available (WitP Tracker and an Excel sheet/plan for the big campaign) that are helpful. But still... it is an experience in a league of its own, for me at least.

Panzer Corps 1 and 2 are essentially a hybrid between Panzer General 1 and 2, with some modernizations here and there and new content of course.

Tiny combat arena has also dozens of mods that add various planes so you're not really limited to play only the Harrier. The TCA modding community discord server has mods posted every week on it and it ads tons of flavour/fun to the game

WITP is the most hardcore wargame i have ever played but I worked on the learning curve and have been loving it. Overr 6 months of real time I have got to January 1944

Welcome to the latest addition to your family. Awesome list!!! War in the Pacific is a game best reserved for retirement period..especially if you play the Japan Grand campaign where you have to manage not just the war, but even the production of ships, air frames and air engines

I picked up Panzer Corps 2 and all the DLC in the Steam sale a couple of weeks ago and am now over 50+ hours into the game. It is fantastic, a whole lot of content in the base game so need for the DLC right off the bat.

Cool video mate, great to see PC2 get a mention, I've got over 500 hours in it and I'm just finishing the last Axis Operation. On higher difficulties (4-5) it can turn into a bit of a puzzle but you do have a lot of flexibility in this game compared to the precious entry, especially with all of the campaign customisation options.

When I heard the word "Panzer", my mind went back to "Codename Panzers, Phase One/Two", an RTT (real time tactics game) that I used to play a bit when I was young. I don't think I even got too far due to my low skill level, but the name still got stuck in my head to this day. And of course I ended up here thanks to my love of Battle for Wesnoth. ^_^

I played all Panzer Corps 2 dlcs but I prefer the first game, it has more variety of campaigns, currently in PC2 you can play only the basic German campaign, the mega German campaign (from the Spanish civil war to an hypothetical invasion of the USA) and the Ardennes with the USA; the developers will release the Polish campaign but still lack Soviet Union or UK ones.

Not sure if your intrested, but if you can get an Amega emulator working, then "Battalion Commander" is very good, I collect older computers, also Nato 95 a naval simulator working on DOS but I cant get it to run on Win 112. Masters of Orion 2 can be got from Steam, it runs in a DIS BOX. and is fullyplable. thanks for your vids Leona.

i would say Steel Division: Normandy 44 is a forgotten game, the campaign and tutorial are a perfect entry point into the wargames by eugens catalog the amount of units is quite impressive, I know they have been translated into the new game but is the eastern front is not the same but still fun, would love a North African campaign DLC For the sequel one may dream

WITPAE The best, and worst, wargame of all time. Carpal tunnel syndrome. I love this game, it is WEGO and it is beyond all other wargames. Other wargames simply cannot compare.

I have to say, 80 bucks for a wargame (any game, really) is an absolute no, no matter how good it is. And I don't believe Gary's games justify that kind of money. There are other excellent wargames, a few that I consider even better than Grisby's titles (Operational Art of War) and won't demand your soul and blood to buy them.

The series always contains a mix and in this instance the flight game has other elements to it. This is like when people try say thay WARNO is not a war game. War very much happens in real time 😉
