Hello Danielle, Firstly my sincerest congratulations on always presenting excellent presentations . I visited South Africa on my very first Safari in 2014. We were at Kapama Game Reserve in Hoedspruit . After this amazing experience I decided about 4 years ago to take up photography as something to keep me occupied when I finally retire. I've always loved wildlife and the outdoors and that's why my wife and I made the journey back home to South Africa . Yes ,we are born South Africans and I can't wait to experience another Safari, most likely the Chobe, and Jacki's Lodge at Madikwe. I started my photography with a Nikon D7500 DSLR and practised in my backyard which has plenty of Australian wildlife eg. kangaroos, bandicoots, lizards, parrots, cockatoos, kookaburras' , wrens, robins, etc. I have since saved and yes upgraded to a Nikon Z8 mirrorless, as this camera would be the one making the journey to Chobe when we decide. I would like to know if you have upgraded from your D850 and by now if you've tried the Nikon Z8 and what are your thoughts on the best set-up procedures. I follow the entire team at Chobe and hopefully I will get to meet you all soon. regards Brian O'Connor

I was in Bella Coola (BC, Canada) wilderness last week, photographing grizzly bears in the wild. I used a Nikon Z6 with the Sigma 60-600 and then switched to the Nikon Z50 with Sigma 60-600 for more reach. I was at water level by a river and didn't want the bears closer but wanted more reach. Anyhow, even the Z50 was really amazing with 11fps, and I was able to capture some great shots for Grizzly bears.

@@wilduntamedphotography1260 I completely agree with you ! there is trend which annoys me a lot of all people going to mirrorless . 1.the dedicated processor for the A-F of the dslr produces of course actually better results in subject tracking than the mirorless.( my D5 for example), even if with the update there is now a measure of the light, and a continuous a-f tracking. ( I apologize to Danielle because i was wrong in my first post about that.😮😮 ) 2.The weight of a dslr is not a handicap to keep a certain balance with heavy lenses for example. 3. you have a grip that allows you to shoot verticaly in a very comfortable position with double commands.😉 4. the buffer of a D850 and D5 is much, much , much biger than the the poor buffer of the nikon Z6. Nobody talks about it, but it is a handicap. if you shoot a 100 m in 12fps , you can shoot the run until the end ! With the z6 , you have only the first meters and after the buffer is full ! what brings you 12fps if the buffer is full very quickly? 5. The evf: I love the OVF ,why? because for me, a wild-. life fotografy is not loking at a screen wild - life but at the nature itself ! we work all day long on the screens of our computers, on the screens of our tablets, on the screens of our phones, on the screens again of our computers, if we want to work on our raws in post - production. i am so happy to look through a viewfinder in which i can see a BIF in the reality .Even if the screen is 8k,16k, or 32K!!!. it is a screen again, perhaps on a wonderfull television, but not what happens in reality. I want nature wild-life not screen wild-life. What will happen in a future, in which some doctors will be able to replace your eyes with two round screens with the argument, that you can immediatly see in the darkness, and don't need to use your eyes again, because they have put in your brains some processors that allow you to see with 100K ? ( and the day of course will come !) 6. Danielle talks about the IBIS in the 76.. yes it is an advantadge. bur really with the new nikon 24- 70 2,8, VR, F mount, and with other lenses with VR, it is so comfortable, that i never said to me . i must really have an IBIS because i cant shoot my fotos without.🤔🤔 So , those were my six reasons, not to switch to mirrorless.😂. You are right the day will come, and they will be ready, but it is not yet the case, because on the sports tennis courts , and olympic games. they will still shoot with DSLRS. Thank you to you to have the courage to say that you continue to shoot with DSLRS: because the trend is so strong that people doesn't dare to say that they still love their DSLRS:!

Than I want to apologize to you for the wrong affirmations I made about the z6, concerning the measure of the light, during the 12 fps and the AFC. After the update, there in fact a measure of the light and a continuing Focus. For the rest, I am happy to see that that you continue to love you D850. Natural wildlife is better than screenwildelife. 😊

Thank you for your insightful comments. This is great coming from a pro without the hype or bias. I also use the Nikon system and one main reason is the respect they have for their customers when it comes to compatibility. I mentions this because you are using an F-mount lens on the Z6. I was around when Canon dropped production of their legacy lens mount for the EF mount and left all of their customers needing to replace their lenses. Ouch!!! I already purchased the D850 a couple of years ago and will wait until the second generation of the Z cameras come around to make one last purchase when I retire. Cheers and thanks.

Another Great video. I also use the Z6 and just came back from Kgalagadi using it on my 300 f2.8 + TC 1.4 and 2.0. For big game, slow flying birds I find the AF system doing very well. for fast erratic small birds not there yet, but not my normal subject. The sensor is crazy good and I love the sharpness, clarity and the high ISO performance. What would I like to see improved on is more responsive focus system, reduced lag and a bit more customisation options. Most of this can be done via firmware updates. I have added the battery pack and this is a great option for more battery life and bit more balance on the long lenses.

One thing to note regarding IBIS is that it is not as effective at longer focal lengths, usually those beyond 100mm or so (although still better than no IBIS). In-lens stabilization is still preferred in most cases if you're using a longer lens like a 70-200 or longer. You will still get some benefit from IBIS with a longer lens, but in my experience, the in-lens stabilization works better and you can get 1-3 stops with the in-lens stabilization over IBIS which seems to be better at shorter FLs (hence why a lot of shorter (wider) lenses don't have in-lens stabilization, usually below 100mm). For low-light most modern cameras will do just fine up to about IS 6400, and I always remember something someone once said to me about high ISO: Don't be afraid to use higher ISOs because we can reduce noise but we can't fix sharpness [from handheld shake]". And by high-ISO this person meant things like ISO 1600 or higher (which most modern cameras can easily do ISO 3200 without much noise). Some like the Z6 series can do ISO 6400 quite well, and some can go even higher (the question is just how tolerant are you to image noise?). Most image processing software these days can take care of pretty much all of the color noise, and most of the luminance noise in high ISO images, and personally I don't mind if there is a little luminance noise in the blurred out areas of my shots as much as I would color noise in general (nobody likes color noise but luckily most cameras these days it can be eliminated in post processing without any real negative impacts, as color noise will always be there at higher ISOs as will luminance but color noise is easier to remove without seriously degrading an image). Although with higher ISO is it important that you get your exposure mostly correct (within say 1/2 or 1 stop) and you get a sharp shot because applying noise reduction in post does have the blur the image slightly to get rid of the noise (or hide it really) and with the exposure, the higher the iSO, the less room you will have to adjust the exposure in post before noise gets bad). Example: from ISO 100 on a modern camera, you may be able to lift the exposure by 4-stops in post with no real degredation of the image (noise), but if you shoot at ISO 1600, or 3200 you may only have about a 1-2 stop range you can adjust before noise starts to appear in the image (since the noise will be more prevelant at higher ISOs to begin with since the noise is recorded at the image the image was taken; post processing just amplies that, and there's usually more noise at higher ISOs, with some exceptions -- such as dual gain sensors).

Hi Luis. I was pleasantly surprised by the AF. I also read a lot of negative comments regarding the AF. The tracking wasn't fast enough (animal tracking feature) but when I used normal (single point/wide) it did really well in my opinion. I honestly think the keeper rate is very high. Compared to the D850, I would probably still go with my D850 if I was forced to choose. I haven't shot with the 7200 yet but a good idea would be to maybe rent the Z6 and see how it compares on the same subjects/tests?

Dangerous comment and recommendation Peter. What you are saying is the Z6 and a big lens is the best for wildlife and some people might think you are right and will spend their money for that specific combo. But fact is, that combination is not best, there are other much more reliable, fast and capable systems out there. Currently the best systems (mirrorless) would be the Canon EOS R5 and the Sony A9ii, unfortunately Nikon currently does not have something that comes even close to these two systems. Please folks, be open for other Systems, brand love is a great thing and in my heart I am also a Nikon lover. But I do not need a specific brand to take good pictures, I need a system which matches best with my shooting style and with the subjects that I am shooting. For landscape I am with you, the Nikon Z7 is a landscape monster, but also here it's no better than a Sony A7RIV (apart from the menu system which is horrible in Sony's and just great in Nikon).
