Thank you for the great video! I have been trying to get my mind around how to present writing samples in my portfolio, but all of my work is proprietary. Creating your own product and showcasing different writing examples for it is a great idea!

Glad the video was helpful! A point of clarification: The idea is to make up a fictional product and write docs for it. Creating a real product would be wayy too much work 😄

Thank you so much for the insight Amruta, this video is a gem. I got to know about CC labs last year when my wife gave an interview for TSE. At that time, I happened to see your documentation. It was a very good and concise document, I was able to create local clusters and play with the DB. Oh forgot to tell you, I am Senior Technical Writer working for Nokia. Your videos are inspiring. I came to know that you are back at CC labs, so that of giving feedback on one of the topics that gave me a hard time when I tried to create a local cluster. "Start a Local Cluster (Insecure)". > I am a Windows user, when I tried to run the command which had "- - background", it was throwing an error as "Unknown Flag". Later I found that the background flag does not work on the windows. I know you have mentioned it on some other topics but it would good if you can mention it in this topic as a note.

I have had my online portfolio for years and never has an employer bothered to take a look even though it is listed at the top of my resume. Still, it is a good asset to have 'out there' as a technical writer I believe.

I am in the process of learning the art of writing and also the tools used for technical writing (like github, markdown etc). I came across ur video where u talk about contributing to projects in github. I am exploring github yet and trying to find some documentation projects I can contribute to.. but I feel bit confused and totally clueless as to what kind of projects to choose etc.. can u pls elaborate on making contributions to open source documentation projects (like when and how can one get started). That would be very helpful to me :) Thanks.

I have made other videos on the topic that you might find helpful. Finding new projects to contribute to takes time and patience tho. I'd recommend spending some time daily just browsing GitHub and getting to know the projects and issues available. As you become more familiar with the ecosystem, you'll start identifying projects suitable for your skillset. Good luck!
