I went to the Museum of the City of New York yesterday, inspired by this video. They have an exhibit called You Are Here that features scenes from movies set in New York. One scene is from King of Staten Island, and Lou Wilson is in it! So that felt like a very "full circle" moment.

Amruta, I LOVE this video and can't believe I'm just now finding it. I became interested in technical writing 10 years ago but didn't pursue it at the time. I then discovered @KateCavanaugh's channel around 2021/2022 through her Nora Roberts writing experiment video, and Kate's videos have kept me company while working from home ever since. I finally became a kind of Technical Writer in 2022, although not in title. I've also tried adapting my days to be more like that of an author for fun. I even use Ulysses as a substitute for Scrivener (Ulysses is excellent for those in need of a markup-based platform), and I'm obsessed with using the word count goal settings like Kate even though my word count goals may be reached via QA templates, release notes, etc. I recently decided to seriously focus on improving my technical writing skills, which is how I came across your videos a few weeks ago. I love seeing the technical and non-technical interests on your channel and can't thank you enough for the guidance you've shared! 🙏

Did you know that your eyeballs have their own immune system? Your body’s immune system, which handles everything except your eyes, doesn’t know they exist. If a cut in your eye were to alert your body’s immune system to your eyes existence, your body would attack your own eyes, and your eyes would melt out of your skull

@ glad I didn’t disappoint lmao Another quick one for you; Amanita mushrooms, Aka Deathbells or Destroying Angel mushrooms, have a living ghost phase where you might feel a little queasy but for about three weeks you’ll feel perfectly fine. In reality the poisons in the mushroom have glued your DNA strands together, like if you dropped hot glue on a ball of yarn (and assuming the yarn doesn’t burst into flames). You’ll start feeling weak, your hair and nails will start falling out, then your digestive system fails, and after all that, then you die from systematic organ failure. The effects are roughly comparable to what would happen if all the DNA in your body vanished at once. These mushrooms are also incredibly common and grow in pretty much every forest in NA if I’m not mistaken, and are commonly mistaken for other, similar, edible mushrooms

Nice video. Are there any good technical writing training Institutes in Pune?
@buffplums3 ай бұрын
Thank you so much for this. I found it very enlightening. I’m an experienced electronics who has done a lot of work as a lecturer, instructor and technical trainer on complex communication and radar systems. I have written a lot of course material based upon traditional presentation format but also written a few technical instruction manuals and also a subject matter 97 page introduction to Radio Frequency principles. I am thinking of getting into tech writing in the subjects that I am familiar with and although when I was working in my actual training roles I was aware of the requirements but I have no experience of doing it as a solo entity. I’d be very interested in hearing from anyone from a similar background who has done this?

Hii, Amruta Great video, as always. I have a question though...I'm a copywriter and am learning Technical writing to further upskill myself. Now, I have some experience in personal finance too and was wondering if writing for the FinTech industry would count as Technical Writing. Also, is being a finance writer different from being a technical writer? I know that 'TECH'nical writing itself has the base answer, but almost every topic and industry has a 'technical' or say detailed side, that is generally not visible on the surface, right? So, if I try my luck in finance writing by going in-depth, will that be technical writing too? Thanks in advance!
@AmrutaRanade3 ай бұрын
Yep, technical writing can be applied across industries, including finance. It's about the depth of knowledge and the audience. Since my background is in engineering, I chose infra tech as my niche, but if I had a background in finance, I'd explore finance writing. I don't think finance writers are called technical writers tho -- I think you'd have to google finance content writers or something similar to find relevant opportunities. Good luck!
@backto20103 ай бұрын
@@AmrutaRanade Thanks a lot for such a detailed answer! I did Google the term and looked around a bit, only top get to know that writing copy or blogs related to finance makes one a finance writer, and I have been doing it for quite some time. That leaves me with nothing but learning technical writing in software development. A friend suggested starting with API docs since they're good for beginners. Your thoughts, please?
@AmrutaRanade3 ай бұрын
In my experience, API docs are good as a beginner if you have a software background. YMMV -- no harm in trying! Check out Tom Johnson's free course: idratherbewriting.com/learnapidoc/

Hi Amruta! Love your content🩵 Do you think it makes sense to break into tech writing with the current ai scenario?
@AmrutaRanade3 ай бұрын
I think it’s still worth trying to break into tech writing, but you need to be aware that it’s much tougher than before. It’s not just because of AI, but also due to layoffs, which have flooded the market with experienced, senior tech writers.

Every technical writing internship or job that I see asks for an engineering background. I am an English major with 4 years of IELTS teaching experience. Now I would want to shift my career to technical writing, and yes, I watched your other video and analyzed if I really want to pursue the same. Where do I start? Could you please guide me on that? Thank you so much in advance.
@AmrutaRanade3 ай бұрын
You’re right-since 2022, companies have been hiring engineers and developers who can use AI tools to write, rather than dedicated writers. And with so many experienced writers now available due to layoffs, it’s really tough for new writers to break in. I wouldn’t recommend switching to tech writing at the moment. It might be better to wait until the AI hype cools off and hiring improves. Just a note: my experience is mostly in software, so other industries might still offer entry-level tech writing opportunities.

@@anandsudeer6670 I agree! Their marketing page feels misleading to me. And not acknowledging the current state of the industry post-AI and layoffs is a major red flag to me. Getting into tech writing rn is incredibly difficult and not at all as easy and guaranteed as they make it seem on their landing page. I do want to acknowledge that I haven't worked in the Indian tech writing industry for almost a decade, so my opinions might be incorrect.
