I love the Roots and Refuge channel with Jess and she often says "make your waiting room your classroom" meaning if your dream is to have a Homestead or garden or do canning... don't wait to learn. Pressure or water bath can the fresh food you can get your hands on. Practice baking the bread. Plant a mini garden even if it's in pots. Make the preserves. Do what you can do now.

I had a big chest freezer when the kids lived here. I gave it to my husbands niece who had 4 girls. I now have a small chest freezer. Boy I miss my chest freezer!! My husband calls it hoarding, I call it mom didn't have indoor plumbing until she was married at 19. We don't waste anything unnecessarily. He will see I'm not crazy. We have a long while before this inflation is under control. Thanks for sharing these great things we can concentrate on for ourselves!

In stocking up you can look for sales during certain seasons, in season items and long term storage options. I grow all I can, purchase what I cannot grow in season and freeze/can it up. So in winter I tend to only buy lettuce and a few miscellaneous items that I run out of. Eating in season has saved me loads of money. It just boils down to having what you need to survive. I am now preparing for 2 then 3 years out. Mylar with oxygen absorbers for grains. And the list goes on. Canning extra, buying extra on sale items and canning more variety of proteins. Perhaps indoor gardening is something that may interest you. Perhaps hunting, fishing or foraging are of interest. Learning skills are just as valuable as a frugal shopper. I thank the Lord every day that I was given the message to prepare. I shared his message. I am blessed, indeed. Through Christ, I am saved. I'm prepared mentally, physically and spiritually. Every day I'm thankful. And every single day I'm growing. God bless each of you!

great video, clear and thoughtful. I am with you on only canning what you know you will eat. Although we didn't mind canned green beans, we HATED canned peas. So, we chose to freeze those in the precious freezer real estate. Makes no sense to waste the veg, electricity, jars etc. canning stuff you won't enjoy.

I just did a small $20 haul at the Dollar Tree. They havent gotten their seeds in yet but gonna keep watch. Did get some wild flower blends and maragolds. Starting with those. Got some more super glue. The single use ones. And some other things to add to my first aid box. The animals look great. Everyone needs to prep and stock as much as possible as quick as possible. Prices are outrageous so watch for sales and clearance items.

I'm in town, we have chickens and "pet rabbits" for proteins, lots of fruit trees, berries and gardens all over. I'm creative with our big back yard, which led me to want this old house 25 years ago. Would I prefer the country, yes as that is where I grew up, but its so high anywhere in WI so we will keep looking and when the time is right we will buy. We also utilize local farmers for hog/beef and large amounts of fruit and veggies to can and freeze.

I think so many people are under the impression that having a small food pantry is expensive. I literally started by buying one bag of barley. My food stash is considerable now after many years. A bag of barley, beans, or pasta literally costs less than a cup of coffee. How many people buy a cup of coffee every day and say they can't afford to prep? Just buy what you eat. I'm a firm believer that everyone should have atleast 1 month of food and water per person.

Here in good ole Michigan, it's not allowed to purchase raw milk, bummer. So, we got goats, which are not milking age, yet! I've always had a good size pantry for decades, because I grew up with a mother that gardened and canned. We have maple trees on our homestead that we've been tapping for 2 years, cooking it down into our own maple syrup. Foraging is another way to get a stockpile. There are wild berries all over the country in the woods. And, mushrooms too. Chaga (sp) grows on birch trees and you can harvest 1/3 of it, dry it out and you have a healthy tea. Just look around, walk around, even get an app for your phone that will ID most of the plants, bushes, vines and trees or get a good foraging book with good clear pictures and descriptions to help ID them. We don't grow enough potatoes for us, so we go to a local food distribution center where they sell only potatoes and watermelons and purchase a 50# bag. Last year it cost us $17.00 for 50#. I'm not crazy for canned green beans either. Fresh is best. I will freeze mine this year and see how I like them then. My hubby loves anything I cook so I don't have a problem with him. Lol. Great Vlog. Love your channel!

Good video as always. I just realized that I have seen a Narragansett and Bourbon Red toms but never hens. People seldom talk about these birds as a very good supply of protein and a large quantity of it. I like them for that. A definite walking protein! I grew up with canned fruit as dessert for many a meal. Just curious, have you tried the yellow bush beans. I plant way more of them than green. I also like the yellow beans pickled with dill. I did ferment some this year with dill this year and they are very good (maybe an option for you). Stocking up like this and maintaining a working pantry is definitely a way of life that may seem overwhelming at first but soon becomes simply, a way of life. Good job folks!

Whoever wants to save his life will lose it. Whoever loses his life for my sake will find it. We don’t need to prep, if we aren’t able. The Father has promised us “all these things” if we seek first His kingdom. I’ll take His storehouse over my own. ♥️ Have peace if you cannot prep.

We like to think of it as preparedness, being resilient and walking in wisdom. We do not prepare out of fear, ever. The Lord has given us our land, our Homestead, our animals and all things to manage and walk out stewardship. In one simple example, the Lord directed Joseph to prepare for 7 years in order to provide for those during a seven-year famine ahead. I'm so glad he listened. Hear from the Lord and walk is wisdom and peace as He directs. Sometimes there are situations in life where mana may need to come from Heaven but in most cases the Lord directs our paths and gives us wisdom on what decisions to make. Always walk in peace, not fear. We serve a mighty God!

Some stores have chicken leg quarters in 10 pound bags for really cheap. They aren't pretty but with a little work they can be divided into thighs and legs. You can also take the skin off of them and debone. De-boning chicken thighs is really not hard. Also, canned chicken legs are sooo good and quick. I find that you can put them on a cookie sheet, glaze with sweet baby rays BBQ sauce and broil until the outside is candied. The meat falls right off of the bone! You can do with with thighs too!

This was an excellent video!!! I have a question regarding tallow. I am wanting to rid myself of canola oil or vegetable oil. I mainly use avocado or olive. Sometimes though I like to fry cubed steak, chicken tenders or salmon croquets. With those you need a good thick layer of oil. Would tallow work well with that and can you strain it and reuse that oil? I have looked at some off Amazon.

Besides having fresh eggs, protein is really our downfall. We've been in sort of a "analysis paralysis" about what type of larger animals to get since we have 3-acres that are partially wooded and twice per year about 1-acre of that gets flooded by our creek. Predators and ticks are a worry as well. What to do, what to do?!?! Lol

We let our chickens run. Yes we loose some but we raise chicks every spring and it seems the older chickens are the ones that get picked off if they do get killed by something. I just like to let the chickens run. I'm not a fan of losing them but there is that plus that the ones we usually loose are the older or weaker chickens.
