I'm glad you're posting so often. Being in software myself remote work being normalized was the one positive thing that came out of the pandemic.

Hej! I just found your channel, moved to Sweden myself a few years back. Broader Norrtäljie area but similar setup. Last house on the street, next to a lake, only weekend neighbours. I fully understand what you mean with regards to the people. In my experience there is a better service culture here. People working for the government know they are ultimatively working for you, so everyone really is supportive if you need anything (building permits, official documents, etc.). The mindset I was explained is called "lagom" which some people strife for. As far as I understand it, it means to acchive balance in yourself and your social circles. Also I think in Sweden due to the size and not being as crowded as Germany is, you find a more self-reliant setup of life here. Perhaps a last hint: Sweden offers great second hand shopping, whenever you see a sign for "loppis" take the time to stop and visit ;)

Having been to Germany I understand what you mean with the food. In germany, even the smallest towns can have bakeries, restaurants etc. because people tend to go out and eat and drink beer a lot which sustains the businesses and keeps the prices down. Here, people rarely go out which makes it unviable to run places to eat and drink. To stay in business, they need to charge more which keeps people from going out so it’s a negative cycle (also alcohol is expensive due to tax reasons). A cultural difference as well as economical I suppose.

hey, fellow software developer here that also does construction on the side, I think a better idea instead of self-leveling stuff, because you already have a wooden floor would be to put a thin layer of OSB with screws to level out the floor and tie it togerther as well and you can put vynil on top of that.

Where I grew up (north), people ate excellent home made food, but only at home. We went to a restaurant to eat out like once a year and then it was expected to be somthing exciting, like chinese. And fast food is generally a bit sad all over the country. But good food exists - in peoples houses. Try to get invited to your neighbours and I am sure they will cook you some great moose and potatoes.

Years passing by, but I don't wanna settle down here. Now I fell in love with Västmanland and have been learning Swedish for 2 years. One day soon! Good luck to you! :)

Thank you for explaining living in sweden/Värmland! Flytspackel.. its for modern buildings in a city.. avoid if you can.. accept that in old houses the floor do deviate.. even at different seasons! Its still this up in the north.. floors can be cold.. its easy to break those down.. and replace those with a half meter insulated floor, with floor heating! Its this it cost a lot.. slippers are cheaper! Or one suposed to build a new house at the same place!

You said "flytspackel" very well and as a German I think you pick up Swedish very well. Edit: Thanks for coming back and making videos again.

You are correct about the difference in the light. It has to do with how far north we are on the globe, which affects how the light travels through the atmosphere to reach us. From what I understand it is a bit more "blueish" than you would expect at the equator, for instance, and or position on the globe also means that the dawn and the twilight are more drawn out (also the times of day the light is at it's most beautiful, in my view). The twilight is also known as "blå timmen" - the blue hour" which creates special light conditions popular with photographers. (I'm not saying "the blue hour" is an exclusively Nordic designation, but it fits very well at our latitudes.)

Hey, love yours vids man, I also moved to Sweden not too long ago but instead of the north I'm a bit under Stockholm but I totally get what you mean about the sun, slow pace and such, back in my home country (France) you had to do everything fast (well that's how it felt like for me) instead here you take your time and so for grocery shopping I love it, concerning fast food if I need to go to one I prefer going to MAX because if I remember correctly they use local food to make their burger and such but I totally get also the lack of variety sometime, but I love Sweden for it's landscape, literally the air and the tranquility

Honestly i really dont think you need to level the floor with flytspackel. Just a regular floating clickfloor on a thin foam should do the trick
@SwedenAdventure21 күн бұрын
I thought the same thing in the office and didn’t level it. In fact, it was quite level - but now the vinyl floor crackles when i’m walking over it and it’s driving me nuts 😭 I did use a thin layer of vinyl-foam for damping but it didn’t help.
@serpserpserp3 күн бұрын
@@SwedenAdventure maybe the floor needs a reinstall. I thought the crackling comes from it usually being misinstalled.

We dont have a strong restaurant culture in sweden, most people eat and make their own food at home, atleast in the rural side of Sweden. In a bigger town you could find some restaurants that are ok. But the usual small town just have take away pizza/burgers etc. You might wanna try Karlstad/Karlskoga/Kristinehamn/Örebro for some better luck but I'm not sure they are big enough.
@arankin291423 күн бұрын
Is. that due to the price? Here in a Swedish speaking part of Finland, I often go to a local buffet restaurant for about 13 euros, all you can eat, homemade, organic. It's very delicious.

Ah food. Just throw some potatoes and a vegetable mix in a large pot and let it simmer. Throw in some spices and herbs. Maybe some meat if you happen to catch some. That's really all a man needs. Anyways. I'm a software developer too, Netherlands, medium sized town, basically retired at current cost of living. Which feels a bit early at nearly 40 years old. So videos/channels like this trigger my fascination and inspiration. I've had my period of city life and all the things and culture that comes with it. But recently I've grown interest in geology. A gateway science to all that is Life. And a much more deep appreciation of what one could call mundane, which actually is not mundane at all once you start to understand it on a deeper level. Perhaps one day I'll join you too in the mountain forest, once the superficial cultural life stands in too much of a contrast with the deep appreciation of earth, nature, universe. Oh silly city life. Politics. I've found my way by accident and chance to be the HoA man of the apartment complex. Today the tasks are fixing a lock, intercom system and diagnose a potential busted sewer pipe. At the other side of the complex from where I live. I can imagine fixing your own house and your own problems must feel very rewarding. While I don't look forward to the scale that you have been dealing with, I do look forward to not being responsible for dozens of households.

How big is difference in price of housing in Germany vs Sweden? Is it like x1.5, or x2 bigger?
@serpserpserp3 күн бұрын
In the cities it is maybe 10-15% cheaper, I think living in the country side in Sweden vs the country side in Germany is where the real savings are, probably like 30-40%. But it looks like you have to be pretty self sufficient out in the country side in Sweden. Not sure about Germany.
