I need you to explain to us old home dwellers what to do when there is a radiator underneath the window. You can’t have long curtains dangling next to the radiator. It’s not safe, especially if you’ve got OG radiators.

If you can't do floor length curtains because of a fire risk, then opt for something like roman shades. Far superior to the puppet show!

("Can lights" are too $$$ and too damm high...I despise vaulted ceilings and don't like heights) We are slowly working on accumulating enough incandescent bulbs to replace the "soft white" LEDs we put in. They're easier on the eyes and, believe it or not, better for your health. We hardly get any natural light in here so if I need to have artificial light, I'd prefer old school. I'd do candles and oil lamps if I wasn't so dang clumsy and the lease allowed it.

Hi Nick, esthetically I agree with your comment on cropped curtains. However, ever so often the radiators of the heatingsystem are placed underneath the windows to ease convection. And in that case drawn floor length curtains hinder the flow of the warmed air.

Blinds are your answer. I know that we would all love to have beautiful windows with curtains floor to ceiling and most interior designer youtube is telling you that you need them, but sometimes it's better to let the dream go and choose something more practical and better fitted to what you have to work with. I recommend the last video Paige Wassel made recently when she gave advice to her subscriber about a weirdly curtained nook :)

Nick about curtains... but what do you do if your radiators are under the windows? if you close them they block the heat
@betmoКүн бұрын
i measure from where the rod should go to the top of the baseboard heat...i buy that size ;) i'm not bothered if they don't go all the way to the floor if they are above the heat...if the rest of the windows aren't then the curtain can go to the floor...
@KatepweКүн бұрын
Mine are like that. We have boiler heat and all the registers run under the windows. The curtains are mounted pretty close to the ceiling and stop at the top of the register. The registers were recently replaced with more streamlined less deep ones. I was thinking a longer bracket might work then the curtain would float past the register 🤷🏻♀️

This is a key concept from Nick: storage does not equal display! Things in the open should be worthy, more or less, of display (except functional things that just need to be there because they are used all the time). Things that need to be stored but don’t deserve display go in closed storage! There are people, ever so rare, who are able to store all their things in an esthetic, beautiful way in open shelving. I have a sister like this. Amazing. The rest of us don’t have to try!
@scasny16 сағат бұрын
I feel they sell us the open storage space as simple shelfs are way cheaper then taking the same format and just slapping doors on it. Making bigger profit and attract with sales. And create more empty open space so they can sell us crap to fill it. Open storage is a office concept and even there we prefer close option, at home its called display case and your sister get it. Most open storage is a display case by definition. Only option were you cant say its open storage is in the kitchen and bathroom. And paradoxically people tend to hide everything behind doors there. Well except keeping the ugly appliances out, with the cords spaghetti as a dressing. I dont care you use bow drier every day. So you put it out, use it and then wrap the wire around it and put it away. It just take a minute. Its not that different from work. Even thou we use it every day, after shift we unplug the grinders and drills and put them away. It not only reduce the fire hazard but teach us to not leaving things around and slowly creating cluttered mess where no one cant find anything. Many people lack this skill and create clutter anywhere the can.

Love the video, and agree with your points. Especially the awkward high tv, it's a North American thing, never seen it in Europe (so far). And btw, if you are old and have dementia you will probably still remember "Hi everyone, I'm Nick, welcome or welcome back to my channel. Okay, in today's video..." 😂😂
