Great stuff! I read about this legend when I was a teenager and the image of him sat up in his best suit and glass of claret has stayed with me. One of those places I was always interested in seeing. Thanks for the video!

Hopefully there's more of these to come. Interesting video. Cheers from frozen Eastern Canada.

Love the dwell at the beginning on the tree that looks like a chicken 🐓 I think if you run around that pyramid backwards 7 times (4x for some of us) the devil will definitely appear to one in the form of a broken ankle, so I’m calling that as “yes, plausible”. Enjoyed this!

He built 'The Sugar Loaf' to win a drunken bet. He bet a lot of money that the tower of a certain nearby church, could be seen from his bedroom window. On waking the next morning, he was horrified to find that it could not be seen from his window, so he got some workmen to knock up a rough tower that could be seen from his window. This tower is quite squat, but looks the part from a distance. And that won him the bet.

I live not far from Brightling. Last time I visited some local people were angry that the cost of maintaining this private mausoleum was being charged to parish residents.

Wow, did not know that. Doesn't seem right that the folly of one man is being paid for by people not associated with, and centuries away from, the fella

I visited the cemetery 20 years ago. I would love to know if he is still sitting there. I was told that this was actually a fact.
