In order to get in the door you have to get past the artificial intelligence that is weeding you out. While I'm not a resume writer, I do see a lot of them come across my desk, both IRL and in my business. There is a theme that has arisen, and I hear myself making the same suggestions frequently. This video is for the nurse or nurse practitioner who is in the season of job application.

I think keeping it as short and sweet as possible is best. Just list the facts. I had good luck with that. My resume is just plain, block style, nothing fancy. No special fonts, no decorations. If I mail them (snail mail), I use my old fashioned daisy-wheel printer. Typed is rarely seen so it stands out :) Employers get resumes by the ton so too much reading can be a huge turn-off. Unless the subspeciality applies to the potential new employer, making it more "generic" is probably better so the employer will think there is room for flexibility for their establishment. For my name title, I do it like any letter. Just put my name on it without the title. The job is for NP, so it is obvious the applicant is a NP. Don't worry the employer will later want your official transcripts. Yes they look at your grades.

Hi Bree- I'm a recent RN grad and applied for two jobs. A residency program that led to a recruiter and manager's interview but have not heard back; the next step would have been a peer interview. I reached out to the recruiter but no response. I've been ghosted :( The other RN job I made to the peer interview but was overlooked due to my lack of experience (no healthcare background). I've been quite on the down but realized that I need to just apply and apply and keep a positive outlook. Here's my question, can we apply for multiple postings at the same organization (different hospitals, same corp)? Second Question, I'm an older grad nurse and afraid i'm thinking negatively but could it be I'm experiencing ageism? I know what you're going to say but I think I'm a good/easy person to get along and I believe I did very well on my interviews. Looking for your thoughts. Thank you

Yes, I would have zero qualms about applying for multiple jobs at one place. Ageism is VERY real. There are a few things you can do to minimize this and it comes down to getting inside their head. What would be your concerns if you were in their shoes. Address those red flags head on.

I am going through the same thing. I have been an LPN for a very long time and recently obtained my RN. I get interviews but no callbacks. I'm older with experience, so assume I'm not selected bc I'm older.

Can you talk about career changers? I went from chemist (15 years) to RN (Emergency 3.5 years) to future NP (graduating Feb 2024). How do you transition all of those valuable years of experience in the other career into this one?

Google transferable skills. These are innate talents you possess that make you a catch regardless what occupation you are in. Personally, I prefer to hire based on who you are as a person anyways. I always say, technical skills can be taught but personality cannot 😉

Do you think employers for critical care environments would consider an NP who does NOT have her CCRN?... Im debating whether to send out resumes now vs. waiting to take my CCRN to plump up my resume..what do you think?
@BreeJuskowiak
@BreeJuskowiak Жыл бұрын
I don’t know that it makes a difference really, I would def not delay getting out there. They want to know how you are as an NP mostly. RN experience, certifications are nice but matter far less than you think.
