I've been binge watching your tutorials, and convinced my 50+ self that I can do my own spring twist braids 👀🧘🏾‍♀️. Bought some on Amazon yesterday, my hair is about 4 inches now. This whole lockdown made me start to do hair care as part of my self-care (my barber misses me) and I find it really calming to do a whole wash day routine. Long route to saying Thank you for being such a vivacious champion for 4c women everywhere (I'm Caribbean) 🙌🏿💯👑

So many makeup wash day is terrible and too time consuming. But I find it so soothing and relaxing taking the time to do some self care listen to my podcast even do a facemask and paint toes in the process. I think it's a way of expressing self love and comes with a sense of content when you truly love your hair. But it's a journey to getting peace with your hair especially when 4c

Hi Jenn found your video today and I'm on a binge. I did my big chop almost 2 years now but was rocking a fade with the curls on top. I decided to grow out the hair for the past 5 months. I must say it's been very hard that I'm telling myself I'm going back to the fade as my wash day and every day after is just the worst for me. I just figured that the Shea Moisture and Cantu products I'm using are doing nothing for me. Watching your videos taught me so much tonight as I learned that shrinkage is a good thing because I thought something was wrong with my hair. Dryness is also killing me. I will definitely be purchasing some the products you've recommended and will be watching more of your videos as the others I've been watching does not share the issues I have. Thank you Jenn.

@@JB-xg6cr you are probably not retaining length due to gradual breakage or SSKs. I had that issue. When your hair was relaxed, it was wasn't curling on itself which makes it easier to retain length. Try stretched styles, low manipulation, keep your ends moisturized everyday and tucked way. Stay away from braids if you have lengthy hair. Hope that helps!

It must be the conditioner. I just normally washed my hair (didnt have braiding hair in my head before) and used this conditioner I never used, my hair was so damaged, the more i was working the conditioner in my hair the more drier and tangled it got. I spent literally the rest of ythe day detangling . Started my hair in the morning and it was dark by the time iwas done. It was just dry brittle and matted.

You should braid or twist your natural hair and then put the braids in over your braided or twisted hair. Did that foe the first time cause I was just lazy and my hair grew 2 inches in 2 months . My natural hair is now a couple inches away from bra strap length. It really helped retained length. 😊

@@peejay8791 like you see how she had her natural hair in twists? Leave it in and braid the hair over that. I did that, left the braids in for a couple months and took it out and retained so much length and less tangles when detangling. I only had to really pick through at the root and even then that was easy. I hope that explanation helps.

(She)Leaves #braids in just under two months. (She)Re-braided the front. “I re-braided the front; that’s how long I had them in.” Two months or thereabouts, with the care that you were obviously taking to have washed…..Quietly you could probably have pulled off two more “just-under months” at that rate. Protective styles USED to be installed with the expectation that they were going to be in AT LEAST two months. The goal was to maintain them as long as one could. That absolutely meant “a touch-up” was go’n be needed at some point. The education nowadays says two months is flirting with too long….And I agree, if you have no plans of “maintenance.” But if you are committed to maintaining the health of ones hair….While it’s “protected” you must adjust your maintenance-MO to accommodate the temporary style. I DO admire your diligence though; sounds like me!👍🏾

I have been doing the no oils and no butters since May and I am never going back.. I know most people care about having definition . My goal was to retain moisture and for my hair not to be so hard ,dry and brittle and that's what I have achieved and my natural curls are getting more defined. This is the best that my hair has ever been .

I just came across your channel and your retention is great🔥. I’m doing also doing a protective style challenge for the year and have been toying with doing a 6months length check this weekend. I hope the challenge is doing for my hair what is did for yours🙌🏾
