A solution for heat resistant velcro attaching is to buy sew-on velcro with no adhesive and use Goop adhesive to attach it. I did this in my Prius camper and it lasted for years in the heat.

If your cameras are zip tied to your tube style roof rack and they swivel downward i would recommend popping a small self tap screw through the zip tie... and maybe it would behoove you to use a metal zip tie that have small holes to accommodate a screw with that idea as well. That would keep your camera from shifting for sure!

Cheers for the info; really clear and concise, and delivered with great charisma. I'm a total newbie (collecting my van tomorrow), and haven't the skills or time to build anything 😅 However, I've been scoping out plenty of KZbin vids to avoid as many newbie mistakes as possible! Plenty of people recommend the blinks (so I will be going down that route for sure), but you have clearly explained the WiFi practicalities better than anyone thanku, and you're right; this is surely THE most important issue to a lot of us. I am now searching (without success so far 😢) through all my old boxes for an old fone.... there's gotta be one somewhere 😂 Finally, an idea to help motivate you to make more vids, cos I totally get why you're on a low right now; you mastered a huge project, ticked all the boxes, got the t-shirt, and see no point in repeating! How about a complete change? Go back to basics; put yourself in my newbie shoes, and put together some 'idiot guides' (real basic stuff that you've long taken for granted) for beginners, utilising your experience to help the newbies (& also casual weekenders) avoid learning from mistakes. Just a thought! 🤔

I loved your build videos and re-viewing them now as I am getting ready to build out my own sprinter (2006). I think you are someone I would trust to do reviews, just like this one. Perhaps that might be something you could consider? Travel videos are ok, too, as long as they are a bit unique. Here again, I think your personality would make that easily possible.

Key is internet, went with T-Mobile 5G home router on 12V power/Starlink Roam combo. Once I have this set-up, the rest is easy and went with dashcam route with parking mode, Blackvue 3 camera Truck Plus version (front, rear, interior). I had it wired to my coach batteries (800ah from factory). That way I have dashcam clips while driving and 24 hour monitoring. I sends me notification if detects movement or intrusion on my phone, can remote view my cameras anytime also speak through the interior camera if needed. Had to hardwire and run power to batteries on initial install but is rock solid and not worry about it anymore. Install and forget. Big plus is no subscription. So dashcam and surveillance system in one solution.
@StanleyLiu-r6x11 ай бұрын
The roof rack one that mounted with two zip ties, I would add a zip tie horizontally, the prevent the camera to slip out from it. The interior one, i would use 3M VHB to adhere to a velcro that has no double sized tape. or, 3D print some clip on mounts for it, mounting it outside and inside.

So apparently you've never gotten video of someone trying to break into your van, which is of course good. But if something like that ever happens, it would be cool to hear about it, what you did about it, and the end result. BTW, i guess another thing one can do is hide an AirTag or two (or similar product), on the van to track it in case it's stolen. Also: I've looked into systems that make it impossible to start the van without disabling a circuit breaker. I've heard bad stories of break-ins at trailheads, etc.

I use the blink camera system to, when it rains they are useless, I put on each camera the insta 360 protection lens on each one. They are really cheap and this video helped me remember what I was going to do but forgot.RAIN X for plastic is superb, rain just falls of the lens so you can see good quality all the time, without it you can only just make out some parts of the van.the other thing you asked for was better velcro. the answer is simple " DONT USE VELCRO" Glue some middle earth magnets to your inside roof they will stick the the metal screw on the blink camera and will never fall off even when driving and I do mean NEVER fail off. Hope this helps. Ray K UK YNWA.

I took my van to Park City last winter too. Last winter my wife and I stayed in the van 30+ nights below -20F and 20+ nights at 10,000+ ft elevation. Pretty much every non Mercadees part of our van needs repair or replacement after last winter. My van says Road Trek on the side of it, but by the time it goes out again it will be almost entirely custom.

Still think your van is one of the best builds ever, but if you're not going to share your experiences of the systems with us, in a practical environment and post on a regular basis, it's like the van doesn't even exist. Which is sad. Cheers, Sev

Great video it definitely addresses one of my concerns. Fwiw my home system consists of Google cams in which the battery cameras aren't as good there. They don't alert to sounds for instance and their motion detection isn't as good as the wired cameras I have. Their batteries last a few weeks on a charge depending on the activity. I will look a these Blink cameras. I'm skeptical of their battery life claim and hoping they are rechargeable but really that's not a huge deal. (Also - IMHO zip ties are great for a lot of things. Permanent mounting not being one of them!)
