I rarely comment on videos, and I just stumbled upon this. Before writing this comment, let me first say that I do not know the creator and I did not watch any other videos of her. I have to say this video is golden, and the instructions that are shown in here can be applied to EVERYTHING you want to learn. Because learning how to learn is KEY and more or less the same regardless of the topic. I just want to add a couple things that might help anyone watching this video: - First, understand that learning something takes TIME. You need to get used to spending time on learning things, especially in this era where our attention span gets shorter and shorter due to increased consumption through social media. So before implementing the steps shown on the video, first get used to the fact that it's not going to be a short ride, and the journey is a lot more important than the destination. Do not trust anyone who says "30 days to be job ready", "30 days for X" or "FASTEST way to learn X". The important thing in here is not to be FAST. - Second, everyone's schedule is different. So treat this video as a guidance, and while applying the steps, feel free to change it to your own needs. For example, when I study I do the different topics back to back, instead of scheduling one session in morning and one session after the work. Or sometimes, I change things up a little bit and focus on completely different topics back to back. Adjust your schedule so that it is easy for you to consistently follow. Consistency is key. - Third, after some time you might want to spend all your free time into learning something to learn faster. DO NOT DO THIS. As said in the video, you need to let your brain rest a little bit to allow it to consume the actual knowledge and make it stick. It might sound counterintuitive, but if you do not take a rest in between your learning sessions, you never allow your brain to process the things you studied, and eventually that leads to burnout. This happened to me a couple times, and trust me you DO NOT want to get burnt out during learning. - Finally, know that you can capable of learning anything. During your journey, you will encounter a lot of problems or things that do not make any sense at first. When stuff like these happen, do not let them demotivate you. Especially in tech, get used to being uncomfortable, if you want to improve yourself. If you truly want something, put aside your comfort zone and start grinding. When you arrive at the destination, you will not regret. I say this as a person who started with Frontend (no tech background) then moved to Backend, and now trying to pivot into Cloud.

I'm 3months into my helpdesk position , and I've gotten complacent and lost my fire. Before this job, I studied almost 6hrs a day cuz I was preparing for the comptia cysa+ cert. Now that I haven't studied in months, I've forgotten everything i've learned in ths past 6months after i got my net+ and sec+. HelpDesk is probably a position you never want to get stuck at (HellDesk lol), so i kinda needed to see this video to light that fire i lost, and get back to studying. Thank you so much

Glad I found this. Studying, especially with a full-time job AND two kids, can be pretty exhausting. Some days I put a lot of work, some days I don’t care. I know I have to learn A, B, and C, but I end up not doing any studying at all. I think it’s brilliant to have two separate sessions in a day. I’ll try this

Love this video. Found myself burning out while studying for my CCNA certification, realized I was writing my notes verbatim, going to take advice to synthesize my knowledge through other means, thank you for the inspiration!

Thanks for talking about Barbara Oakley. I watched her Ted talk and am now reading her book: "A Mind for Numbers: How to Excel at Math and Science (Even If You Flunked Algebra)". Honestly, watching her lecture and reading the book should be mandatory at least once a year for school aged children. The guidance on how to use one's brain is first rate. I only wish I had it back when I was in school. Now, as long time sysadmin studying for my AWS Cloud Architect exam, I need every tip and motivation I have find to get through this. Thanks GPS!

I usually don't comment on videos, but thank you for sharing this study routine. I've struggled for years with courses and certifications, feeling like I wasn't learning effectively. This year, starting college has been challenging, and now I need to get my first Google Cloud certification at work. Your video gave me confidence in how to organize my study approach. I'll start applying your technique and hope to update with positive results in a few months.

These are really good methods, What could make your learning even faster is pick a project and apply what you learn there and complete it. That will solidify it.

Thanks so much for sharing these type. Regarding synthesising, could making flash cards be considered a form of this? The way I see it is I'm extracting the key info from the notes and putting them into something else to be used for exam prep, and even sharing with everyone else. Plus it acts as a review. I'm a bit shy at the thought of blogging.

Thank you for your strategy. How do you remember everything you studied. Say, for example, you studied Linux and then passed the AWS Solution Architect exam. Now you may have an interview coming up the AWS exam might flash out everything. In my case, that's where I struggle. I feel like I need to study Linux (Just an example) all over again.
