Haha we still love you! Straight fire advice. At my current help desk Gig, they want me to have more server experience before I pivot to system admin, so they're hiring from the outside unfortunately. Using this experience to keep shadowing my admin so I can put more on my resume and apply elsewhere. 2 months later they're struggling to find anyone to fill the role because it's 2nd shift.. same hours I work. Watching your videos keep me positive, tho!

This is what people don't understand. We are 100% in control of what we do. At one point, one of my managers told me that I wasn't ready, when she wasn't even pay attention of what I was learning.

I love the tip concerning journaling! I jot down what I’m doing weekly to remind myself of the progress I’m making as a newbie. Really helps with imposter syndrome.

Hey what's up GPS! Thanks 4 another great advice video! I've learned that you have to be fearless but cautious when it comes to your work/life balance. Paying your bills is essential but the older I get, the more I see that happiness with your work is super critical and should not be compromised. I really appreciate all that you do for us! And you have two fur babies now! I love the attack move from the desk your one kitty made on the other at the 3:59 min mark! As usual, be well, be safe and Peace & Blessings!

I love this video! Thank you! I recently left a helpdesk position because I realized they weren’t really trying to promote employees in a timely manner. Originally they instated that going through the tiers would be automatic but several months in they stated that promotion is based solely on metrics and not an automatic escalation process. I didn’t want to waste time so I resigned.

Great video. My journey is very similar to yours including timescales on promotions. In the early stages of your career, my best advice to people is if no one questions your ability to get the job done, you’re probably ready to make your next move

Excellent advice. It served as a good reminder that I'd been slacking on my career journey, and it was also good to take a step back and reflect on all these things. Thank you.

I feel this, I've been a system admin for far longer than I wish to admit. A lot of that is because I constantly chase some sort of "ooo shiny" thing that isn't relevant to my career. Great advice here.

I always smile when I see honest and hard-working people like you succeed, well-done! It means that at least some things in this world are right) Your videos and project ideas have been very helpful, I'm looking forward for more content on your channel and to see how you career progresses in the future. I have a question, I will be starting a new job in a few weeks, the position title is different, but from description of responsibilities I understand it to be more of a Azure Cloud Administrator role - managing cloud resources, optimize costs and creating reports, that kind of stuff. I agreed to the offer since the salary is very attractive for me, but now I feel like I am not competent enough for the job, and it bothers me a bit. Sure, I have experience working with cloud as a web developer, but I know that I still need to learn a lot about the Azure, in terms of networking, access management, security, etc. So my question is have you ever felt that you don't have enough qualification or competence for the job, and if yes, how you handle it?
@shiloh41847 ай бұрын
Re salary 2 questions 1) Is that base or with bonuses ,etc. Obv if its violating a nda , no worries. 2) i know you have no current financial need to, but are you still doing side projects for pay/fun/growth. Ie new tech or ppl that just know you can get it done and seek you out.

@@shiloh4184 give me the timestamp of the figure you are referring to please. and yes, I could find something comparable. I've had offers from smaller companies for more than what I make now.

Good video! I know this video is more about how you got promoted but I think another reason is because your manager or whoever hired you LIKES you! I don't think people will get promoted if management does not like them. Just my two cents....
@MadeByGPS9 ай бұрын
Yeah, but I feel like I earned that. They didn't necessarily like me from the start, I worked towards that. I've had over 10 managers by now, hard to say I got promoted each time just because they liked me.
