Great Video which has some valid points! Its worth noting that a lot of companies utilize the cloud incorrectly and inefficiently. They will essentially lift snd shift into cloud using expensive compute options like VMs rather than using platform and serverless options like AKS, App services, Function Apps, container apps, Azure SQL etc. Most companies dont want to transform, refactor and rearchitect. I think that's a key methodology to consider when looking at the cloud. Otherwise, on prem infra is still very much relevant. Transformation into Cloud requires a complete methodology shift, not just from a software design but also how you develop using devops practices etc. An interesting watch! Thanks!

Under pre reqs, does the Degree have to be in tech, or the degree can be in anything like Business?

I appreciate the point you made about not wanting to lean into extremes. Ultimately those are just opinionated oversimplifications as well. It is a good idea to look at requirements and decide based on what will be a good fit.

You Gen-Z'ers really don't know that a "Dell" Server just means there's a Dell logo on the case? They're not MacBook Airs where you're locked into the vendor or purchase time config.

Certification is not a problem. The problem is that you need certification on top of ops certification. As a result, cloud ops need to be more skilled and higher paid.

I'm not kind of expert on this, but regarding protection against bit rot and data recovery, any reason why Qnap's ZFS would be better than Synology's BTFS?

I've been using a NUC for doing things like this. Minimal storage needs but lets me play around. I want to setup a 3 node K8s cluster at some point once I have fiber at the house this fall, self hosting will be much easier.

I never considered a homelab strictly as strickly a on-prem environment. It can be in the Cloud like linode or locally on your laptop. I have a server rack at home that integrates with Azure and aws instances as a hybrid approach. Most businesses are Hybrid anyways. Cloud is just an extension of my homelab.

I quit cloud trap since 2021. Never going back again. Cloud is a complex formula designed to enslave and rip you off. Stay away from cloud services unless really necessary. 99% of the time you don’t need cloud. Especially stay away from serverless hypocrisy.
