As a mother, I can understand the mother protecting the daughter and never sharing the bad things. I did that for my older son's with their father. My boys saw with their own eyes how their father was. My door was always open to co-parent, and to come get them. He just never did. He has since passed, and it sucks that they never had a good relationship with him. My kids had my brother, uncles, my grandfather, and my husband (they call him pops). He was and still is the best dad to them. He raised them to be responsible young men. Now, he spoils the grandkids just as much.

12:29 honestly? This is the most grown up, loving thing I’ve heard on this show, ever. It’s one thing to hear you’re loved and another to actually _feel_ it, and she saw how much her baby sister needed her turn feel their daddy’s love. That little girl was hurt, not angry. Anger is just a shield, and I hope she can put her shield down for good. 21:54 He did good raising her. She has survived so much, and maintained her empathy. My own daddy had his ex wife try to force him to challenge my paternity because he thought he was sterile. He looked her in the face and said “First of all, she’s my spitting image. Second of all, even if she’s not,_so fucking what?_ I talked to her mother’s belly, heard her heartbeat, gone to appointments, I loved her the minute I saw her. She’s my damn daughter, no test needed, I’ve been here for a decade and I refuse to allow you to continue harming my daughter.” And it directly contributed to his divorce.

That 3rd one hit wayyy too close to home, I completely understand both of them. Dealing with a father who always has to defend and make up excuse instead of taking accountability. It's frustrating and stressful, especially when you do attempt to build a relationship and all you get is a defensive person. The first thing they use is what they bought you and money, not the lack of time they spent with you. The victim game of "You could've called me," makes it ten times worse, because it feels like you're dealing with a child rather than someone who is supposed to be your father. Wishing the two of them the best, and for them to stop putting up with those empty promises and selfish actions of his.
