Matt I really enjoy your videos I can honestly say I've watched hundreds of them six months ago I bought a Taylor 114 had never held a guitar before tried watching other people's videos but they were too fast and too advanced you taught me so many easy ways to do so many different chords I would love to see you more videos like this since you already have hundreds of doing songs don't get me wrong I want you to keep doing those videos to I would love to see more of these and a couple more on how to do bar chords without having to Bar them I am learning to write songs and love being able to cheat and do bar chords in my songs without actually having to bar them God has definitely led me to you because you are one of the few people that I can watch and understand I also bought your DVDs they were very helpful

I was at a point where I was stuck and your video helped with just enough theory that it wasn't overwhelming ..because I have searched for videos to show me how and where to go on the neck when soloing..I could play some chords and start a solo and then get stuck because I didn't know what to go next bit this helped after hundreds of videos..but I have learned a lot from Marty Schwartz

I love lessons like this man! Marty Music and Justinguitar have really helped me with scales and learning the pentatonic scale as well as theory and lead guitar. You've also helped me a lot too. One of the best things you taught me was that strumming was all about timing and not to have a set strumming pattern which always used to mess me up. Since you taught me about timing it's totally changed the way I play. Thanks for that! Keep up all the great work you do and God Bless!!!

I’m still learning this and from what I have been told to start off with would be the 2 strings 5th and 4th 1-2 3-4 and always finish in the key note. For example, In the key of D it would be 1-2 3-4 4th bring the D note. You can mess around going back and forth, put some hammer inside pull off’s slide into the first note but that comes a little later. I would also recommend getting some sound tracks to play over. Any way that’s my 2 cents on this from what I’ve learned so far.

I learned a lot from yourguitarsage here on youtube about scales. This video really made sense to me. I've been playing scales but haven't really thought about how to solo. I'm good feeling rhythm in a song but I'm not too good at lead guitar. This video makes solos seem less complicated and really helps me use basic chord shapes to understand and play lead guitar.

Yes, I like this video because it is important to be able figure out where individual notes are on each string, particularly on the low E string as a starting point. One of the tricks I use is for remembering what notes are on the first 3 dots on the neck for the 6th (low E) string is to use the term "GAB". That kinda fits into this lesson for the G, A, D chords here because using the dots on the neck makes it easier to play the 6 note progressions.... Thanks for your videos, I really enjoy them.

I just now have come across your tutorial here and you are the one that has finally helped me understand the fret board thank yo so very much- it was the comparison to the piano keys that did it for me. Now I am a beginner and it would be great if maybe for us beginners you could slow down your chord changes when you are showing how to play a song, just a request for us that are having difficulties and thank you for what you are doing here it is very much appreciated- may God Bless you and your family

This is a fun trick to casually play. IMO it's also super important for people to understand that those 6 fingerings exist within a scale pattern e.g., minor pentatonic. Add another 6 fingerings to this and you will have the entire first shape of the minor pentatonic scale pattern that you can use over and over again (fundamentals and context is king!) You should do a video on scales next and incorporate this into it. All good stuff- thanks for sharing and keep them coming! Showing the piano on the tablet was a great way to show the notes and sharps/flats! Nice guitar too BTW!

This made several concepts fall into place for me, a beginner. I would like to see an easy set of 3 or 4 songs we could learn and then raise the bar a bit for the next one. It would help with goal setting and focus as I tend to bounce from concept or song to the next without becoming good at any. I know that I am not the only one that could use a goal based roadmap. Thanks for all and I look forward to what is next.

Steve Stine and marty schwartz both teach a lot on scales and soloing ! Steve has some free theory lessons that are great . Also when soloing you can stay in the scale of the key of the song you dont have to change but you can change . You can slide in between 3r and fifth fret . Hammer from 3 to 5 or pull off to 3 from 5 on the g string you can play open 3 then 5 . i recommend making a copy of all 5 positions of the pent scale memorize them slide back and forth . Now look at position 1 of the scale the back side of the scale is the beginning notes of position 2 they interlock . 2 interlocks with 3 3 with 4 4 with 5 5 with 1 . Play over a backing track . Have fun

Thanks for this...one of the few lessons I've found that is basic enough for me not to try to over think this, very helpful to me. I'm thinking you can also make a D cord closer to the 10th fret so you don't have to jump so far to hit that lick.....also may sound a little better with the cord being closer to the pitch of the lick...I'm a beginner so not sure on this, still trying to put things together slowly...lol.

Great lesson. A note to all beginners... When wanting to learn to solo you will use alot of pentotonic scales played over the rhythm. So if you use a G chord as the starting of a song then the song is in the key of G major... With that said the appropriate pentotonic scale to use ( according to music theory) is the G major pentotonic. This scale is made up of the following...Xst being string number and(X-X) being fret position... 6th(3-5), 5th(2-5), 4th(2-5) 3rd(2-4), 2nd(3-5), 1st(3-5).

Another great video my friend! Playing lead isn't really any more difficult than rhythm but if it isn't something you are used to it can be difficult. Using the C major as an example was a great starting point as was the basic explanation of the 12 notes in music. Once people understand that western music only has 12 notes in total it makes things much less intimidating. Keep doing what you do!!!!
