Have you heard about queer?
@mikitea682 жыл бұрын
Re do this episode and use an actual straight person. Make them actually lie and not have to explain their identity and sexualities as not queer. Whether or not he identifies as straight there are those who feel that the representation is considered queer. Anything that's not heterosexual and monogamous (with the exception of polygamy as that can lead to abuse) is queer but not necessarily a part of the LGBTQIA+ community. Queer or strange is by definition something that isn't the norm. Queer in regards to people and sexualities as well as gender identity can be any identity that's not monogamous and heterosexual. Thank you for coming to my TED talk.

Just a reminder to everyone; You never have to "prove" your queerness. "Looking/acting gay" does not make you gay or queer, in the same way not "looking/acting gay" doesn't make you not queer. You don't have to sound or dress like you think gay people do or should, because what makes somebody queer has absolutely nothing to do with how they present and everything to do with how they feel inside. You should never feel like you aren't queer enough, just because you aren't a "golden gay" or you don't relate to the majority of those under the queer label. One honest question - in 4:27 , Elizabeth talks about her reservations on calling herself bi because she dated trans ppl, but isn’t bisexuality supposed to mean that you are attracted to all genders? Or even if we were to define it as strict attraction to men and women (which is not the definition but some ppl do) wouldn’t trans people also be included in that definition?

its interesting to see how different ppl define the word queer. automatically, devens was targeted for dating a woman when they could've just been bi/pan, and as a nonbinary person i certainly did a double take at the idea of nonbinary not equalling queer as if queerness doesn't also involve gender. i think the misconstrued episode title makes the reveal fall flat because genderwise devens literally counts as queer. should've done "6 gay people vs 1 liar" if they weren't gonna use the full definition of the word queer.
@thatcitrusfriend62342 жыл бұрын
Except the word queer doesn't always apply to everyone, and Devens doesn't count as that if he doesn't use it? As I understand it's an umbrella term, so I don't see it as being a big deal. @ThatCitrusFriend Making the mole an lgbtq person perpetuates a harmful stereotype that non binary and poly individuals are either invalid, or not really part of the lgbtq community, since "queer" is an umbrella term applied to the lgbtq community, so it just seems really insensitive on Jubilee's part that they did not specify that this would be about the individals use of the label "Queer" and not lgbtq people versus a cishet mole.

Counting Devens as the mole because they don't identify as queer is TECHNICALLY correct, but also I think it opens up a really messy discussion about what queer means and how it applies to people as a whole, whether they feel they are a part of the community or not. Hmm. I would definitely say Devens is queer, but I respect that Devens doesn't identify with the label. I just also think there's a better way to have this discussion (maybe a middle ground episode?) and to keep "odd one out" (ironic title for this) as the typical "cis straight person pretending to be queer". It's hard for me to put into words. Devens, you are welcome to identify however you want! You're valid, you do you, and just know that there is always a place for you in the queer community if you ever need or want it.

Can we just take a second to acknowledge that "gold star gay/lesbian" or "golden gay/lesbian" are not terms that are okay. They are very derogatory towards people who hadn't figured out their sexuality until later or for other reasons have been in non-gay relationships. The term holds a superiority complex and should be completely removed from our dictionaries
