I feel like your affiliation with the mag tools folks is kind of a match made in heaven! In my mental picture of how this came about, they were watching your videos, saw how you can solve ANY problem using magnets, and emailed you saying, “You know, Colin, we think this could be the beginning of a beautiful friendship...”

Thanks for mentioning my tip on the glue stick. I thought I'd provide some additional notes/updates on my glue stick suggestion: In general: - It does NOT glue them in place. It DOES lessen their tendance to slip. - It does make the bottom of the mat sticky temporarily. The glue will dry out after a while and re-application will be necessary. I live in Florida and the glue seems to last about 3-4 months. Warmer weather seems to speed it up slightly. It doesn't get below freezing here often, so I can't speak to winters up north. - Depending on your flooring surface you may need multiple lines of glue. I have a bare concrete floor and the glue stick seems to work well to keep the anti-fatigue mats I use from sliding easily around. I have noticed it does better in some areas than others. In one area of my shop, I've had to put a grid of glue lines spaced about 3 inches (7.5 cm) apart on the back of one set of mats. This may be due to that area being slightly less smooth than others. Where it works, it works pretty well. Where it doesn't want to work, it isn't as good of a solution.

I have a tip for spacing screws or fasteners on a board without using a tape measure or using math. I used this method for years to space rivets in aluminum sheet. Purchase a couple feet of 1/2" wide elastic from a fabric store and accurately mark evenly spaced graduations throughout the length. To use, just clamp one end of the elastic to your board edge and stretch the elastic to your desired spacing, secure and transfer the even spacing to your piece. No need for a tape measure. Easy.

Colin, a friend uses blue painters tape for curves. He places the tape on the curve extending out past the ends a bit, ideally lining it up with an edge to keep it straight, cut the ends off to be exact. He then removes the tape and places it on the material he has to cut for an exact measurement. Just be careful not to stretch the tape in the process.

For the mats, a little spray adhesive to keep them together helps a lot. Also, you can buy rolls of the no-slip foamy weave stuff for a buck or 2. You can either glue strips or cover the whole bottom with the no-slip. Note, test the glue on your material. I've seen some propellents cause reactions. The cloth tape measures also come in roll-ups like the metal tape measures. Look in the fabric section. Apparently, some companies treat their pallets with insecticide. There is usually some kind of distinct marking.

I'm late to the video but I have a suggestion concerning the dust collector remote switch. When entering the house from the garage I routinely take my car keys (which are on a small carabiner) and place them on a hook near the garage door. The carabineer, with the car key attached, lives on a belt loop when I'm in the car and can easily be taken on and off. If you were to place the dusk collection remote on a similar carabineer you could place it on a hook near the shop door. Once you enter the shop, place the "beener" on a belt loop and it will be in easy reach at all times. When leaving the shop just take it off and out it back on the hook.

For the slipping mats I put foam mesh draw/shelf liner material under the mat. Also works great under rug runners and etc that are in the house. It won’t stick to or mar the flooring surface.

Good stuff, Colin! As for rotating the clamp around, that's clunky. Easier to use two clamps. Attach one to the upright below the legs, then clamp it (the clamp) to the legs. If you're really bored, make a jig that is 4 sides of wood pieces that fit around the upright, clamp it in place, and then clamp between it and the legs. There's a HUGE difference between pull-force where it's all transmitted to the joint, and push-force, where it's shared 50/50 between the joint and the brace (the ceiling). If you want to do 50% of something, I suggest roulette.

You hadn't mentioned a 1/4 " tape rule works great for radius measuring also. I also keep a 5 gallon bucket with 2 or 3 inches of water under my bench. Its easy to rinse and hang my rag on the rim.

I do pretty much the same thing with accessory cables coming from USB hubs on the PS3 to keep track of which cable is which when plugging in controllers to recharge. Using bread twist ties on each end of the cable that are the same color, so I can tell which is actually plugged in and which aren't. Seems to be a pretty good system when you have a ton of cables you're trying to keep track of. =)

To always keep my dust collection remote switch with me, I use an inexpensive carabiner (spring link). They're just a couple of dollars. I slip the carabiner through a belt loop. It's always at finger-tip reach and never need to remember "where did I put it?"

I used to keep my fob on my belt but I kept turning it on when I’d lean against the workbench, etc. So, O started keeping it in my top pocket as your viewer suggested. Better, but I still get some accidental bumps. Gonna try my apron grommet next. Should be out of the way enough.

Great tips. A couple of comments: For anti-slip, I think I'd use rubber cement instead. Let it dry all the way and it should increase the friction on most surfaces without leaving residue. For a remote, the neck-strap or belt-clip retractable badge holders (or 'badge reels') used at facilities where you have to have ID all the time should work fine. They're designed to be breakaway, so you shouldn't have much of a safety issue issue, they're pretty easy to find, and they're inexpensive.

Re: Mats on floors. I have a painted concrete floor that I don't want to glue mats to so I Squeeze out some silicone strips , smooth them out then let them dry. Your body weight is enough to keep them from slipping even if you push on them. Easy to move also if you can't afford a loot of the mats

Years ago my Mother measured openings to replace some broken barn glass with a dressmakers tape. The glass came back too big and had to be recut. Seems the dressmakers tape had stretched and was measuring long. I don't use dressmakers tape often but when I do I check its accuracy first. FYI

I use a straw to clean the excess glue. It does not cause glue to spread. You pinch the straw at one end and it makes a nice 45 degree angle for picking up the glue. then cut the straw for the next time.

I am sure those MagTools are nice, but even if they'd be 50% off they'd still be overpriced. We used to have those kinds of switches in our optics labs before companies started selling optics tables with pre-drilled holes. I am sure the switches we used weren't $100 a piece, LO;-).
