Another tip: “lie” about an ability the new job requires. But only if you are capable of learning this ability in the time between you application and the first technical interview. This mainly goes for entry to mid level stuff, like Active Directory or pfSense. You can get familiar with tools like these in a couple of weeks, and companies tend to value those skills. And if they ask, say you learned out of professional interest and are looking forward to applying your knowledge on an established environment

You are right on about changing job title to security analyst. In order for me to break into cybersecurity from desktop support, I had to change my title to IT Support/Security Analyst as well as learn and put on my resume Splunk and Nessus. Once I did those 3 things recruiters for cybersecurity roles came flooding in. It’s a shame you have to finesse or embellish your resume but that’s the only way to get attention for cybersecurity roles unfortunately. Sometimes no amount of cybersecurity degrees, try hack me, cyber ranges, and homelabs will do until you do those 3 things.

If you are securing your living area's devices, user accounts, gateways, policies, and networks, and you are doing the same on a volunteer basis for family, friends, and community organizations, then yes... you are a Cyber Security Analyst. That is your title at the top of the resume. The help desk is just paying the bills. I had challenges with this mentality... I thought it was being deceitful because of my puritanical upbringing. I had to kind of break out of this rigid thinking and cognitively override the programming of childhood to realize, "no, it is just aggressive self marketing." And everyone is doing this, which sounds like a horrifying justification as I read it, but do not handicap yourself on the resume. If ever there is a place to aggressively market yourself, it is on the top one third of your one page resume.

I applied for 70 jobs after graduating. Got 5 interviews and just took the 1st offer I got because the people there were really kind and I couldn't take anymore of the pain that is applying.

The resume spraying attack may appear wonky with a side of cheese to the uninitiated, but it is effective. You did exactly the right thing taking the first offer; if you ever do want to move onto a second cyber security job and leave that organization (sounds like you will not and should not based on the climate), then you can go anywhere. TL;DR take the first offer whatever it is in cyber security.

I feel like embellishing is one of the most important parts to CV writing - in the words of Joshua Fluke (a channel I highly recommend for career advice in tech) "your CV gets you an interview, not the job". If you know you can hold your own in the interview, then you make sure your CV sells you enough by all means necessary. Even if you arent 100% confident with some technologies they have listed but know you can go learn them fast (either on the job or in your free time - stuff like yara and sigma jump to mind), go for it anyway. Cyber is high demand and job requirements are more of a wishlist than anything.

I feel so embarassed to appear confident, I don't know why. It's like I know that I can fail and I know that I am not the best, why should I speak like I am the greatest. That's why it hurts me to lie or even half-lie about me in my resume. I feel that if I get to the interview I might get asked about different technologies that I do not know and I would just freeze. I am also afraid that if I land the job I will get into a scenario like: someone comes to me and says "do this" and I will sit there for an hour rethinking my life and run back home in a panic. lol

I struggled with this, and there are mitigations. Are you literate? Are you curious? Do you know in your heart that if a technical interviewer asks you a super stumper that you can hop online, dive in, and learn the 101 level in an hour? Say, "I have not run across that yet, but I will not sleep until I learn more," or similar. If the answer to these are "yes" for you, then be confident. Cognitively trick your heart into compliance. Let the logic override the emotion. You are the candidate they need, and trust me, you are needed. Now go do it.
