To all the people posting Rob Dahm comments. This is exactly what he wanted. For more shops to build more rotaries and stop acting like there's some secret to building them. To be fair on his defense, he's doing what entire shops do with just 3 or 4 people and he's not a professional. He's just a smart guy with a dream.

This sounds nothing like any other engine. It's not the thunderous roar of a V8, not the V10 symphony, the beautiful scream of a V12 or a 4-rotor. This is just pure aggression. I love it.
@wiktorjachyra18693 жыл бұрын
Its definitely unique...at idle is sounds like a mix of a V8 rumble, with some of the V10 symphony without having the exact sound....and at high rpm it has a mix of a lower V8 sounding rumble mixed with a V12 scream.

I've built tons of v8s tons of 4cyl motors even inline 6s. First time I saw a rebuild kit for a rotor motor I was confused,$1000 and it was just a small box of washers and O rings lol.. so who knows might be time to learn something new.. but major props to these guys for building such a insane engine

@helplmchoking4 жыл бұрын
Technically Mazda pulled a sneaky with their capacity measurements so it's closer to 7,848cc given a rotar can fire once per crank rotation while a piston engine requires 2 rotations for the full 4 stroke cycle, which is why rotaries seem to make a lot of power for their quoted size. Also, PPRE's 6 rotor is designed to essentially be two 3 rotors rotated 180° from each other, so for a piston engine comparison you'd have to look at something like a 7.8L V12 which kind of puts the insanity of this engine in such a tiny car into perspective
@TykeMison_4 жыл бұрын
Due to how the Wankel rotary's combustion cycle works, the real effective displacement is double the "rated displacement". I'll refer you to a good, short technical post explaining why this is true (go here: grassrootsmotorsports.com/forum/off-topic-discussion/dispelling-the-rotary-displacement-myth/43487/page1/ ), and also give you a simple formula for the true working displacement of a Wankel rotary. In short, because the rotors spin at 1/3rd the speed of the eccentric shaft, and because of how the rotors are offset, it gives 720 degrees (2 spins) for 2 combustion cycles to create 1080 degrees (3 spins) of the complete 4-stroke cycle for the eccentric shaft/crankshaft. The formula is: 654cc(chamber volume) * 3(amount of chambers) * (number of rotors) * (2/3) but an easy rule to remember is just double the advertising number.
@helplmchoking4 жыл бұрын
@Automobile Addict it shouldn't upset anyone, rotaries are a very clever design and do have some benefits over piston engines, especially when it comes to the amount of air they can flow, the more direct conversion to rotating power and the reduced mechanical drag. But comparing power figures to piston engines has to be done with the right displacement comparisons (Craig has commented a much more accurate formula). It's very exciting to see a "1.3L" engine making over 200hp, but it's not actually THAT amazing when the effective displacement is more like 2.6L. Knowing that rotaries actually have much greater displacements than are advertised does explain why a 4 rotor engine (supposedly 2.6L) with a big turbo can throw out well over 1000hp, because it's actually closer to 5.2L in displacement and because rotaries flow so much air they can support very largo turbos. It also explains why fuel consumption is so poor, because a 13b definitely doesn't use gas like a 1.3! Obviously the weak point has always been the seals, but that comes down to the fact they weren't allowed to burn pre mix fuel or oil from factory for emissions legislation
It’s a a 80/90’s formula 1 🏎 sound. Also how quick does it upshift!! Would luv to see some numbers on that N/A beast
