How do you like to set up parries?

Well when I did sport sabre, I would often set up in the box with an explosive flunge and then pull short the next touch. If not I would feint a parry in prep and then change the line for the corresponding parry.

A good idea is to do a slow-down in attack and also to pull the hand back a little bit, to provoke a counter-attack by the opponent, which most probably comes to the fifth, or as direé (straight blade to the chest). Both of them can be taken down with a fast fifth with a dive in a short distance, and this is exactly what Oh and Homer are doing in this video (makes me reconsider the harsh words as well which I said about Oh in another video here lately 😄) Yet, if the opponent is fast enough and knows the tricks of the attacker, he might fake the contra to the fifth and hit into the third instead - it's quite of a mind-game, or even a gamble, if you wish. Anyways: smth so exciting to perform, and to watch and enjoy from aside.

Really excellent - will share this. Homer's quinte parry is iconic. Seitz's deception parry is lovely and the two from Ibragimov *chef's kiss*

Homer also has a ridiculous flunge counterparry 2 against Elsissy in a nac final. I'm not forgetting that one anytime soon.

@@Sammy-cq5gp For me it's always going to be the London 2012 quinte parry at 14-14 with Yakimenko, as I was in the room to see it. Amazing.

2:55 not commenting at the parry setup itself but... How did the French gents destroy the Korean overlords? Also what was the final score?

For some reason the French often do well in Warsaw. They beat the Koreans in 2015, 2019 and 2020

I know this questions is off topic for this video and your channel in general, but I thought I would send my questions anyways. How hard would it be to become very good at epee fencing if I decided to switch from sabre (been doing sabre for 1 year now). I am currently 17, I don't know if that helps or not. Thanks in advanced for answering my question, I hope.

Still doing sabre? I encourage my students to sabre bout at home/gym no ref and only count clean single touches when they feel burnt out with priority. Obviously most our practice uses RoW but sometimes you gotta just fence to fence ya know?
