Crazy that fencing of kinds was the norm 200 years ago. Fathers taught sons how to sword fight and disputes where settled via duel
@Noor-rk9sf3 жыл бұрын
Well it wasn't as quick since the swords weighed far heavier. But yeah sabre is the closest to how it was before. Perhaps a bit more stabbing motions like épée though.
@stollkoloss26892 жыл бұрын
@@Noor-rk9sf depends. For example in polish/hungarian Sabre fencing would be way more Cuts than Stabs, Just because of the Design of the Blade. They were far more curved than the modern olympic ones, and had a wider Blade. (Dont know about size in General) this allowed for quick and lethal Cuts,while Stabs, though possible and quite deadly were a lot more difficult to pull Off.

the actual fencing seen here derives from the courses provided for officers who did not have a rifle or sabre and were exposed on the battle field without the obligation to get involved in the brawl. they felt insecure so it was decided that they would undergo fencing and gun shooting to provide them with a minimum of physical battle training. Depending on what regiment they were part of, they had a choice between the different weapons. That concluded the tactical and strategic training they would get in Military School.

Amazing, & what incredible athleticism & dedication! If I knew 25-30 years ago what I know now I would have pursued that sport vigorously, fervently & with tremendous rigor (following six months of super intense dancing & ballet lessons, to increase & enhance my nimble footwork & agility). Might still look into taking some lessons (back in the late 1600s-mid 1700s the Irish excelled at that type of swordplay with rapier swords, as they were some of the finest & fiercest in all of Europe in that fine & fancy art!).

I don't know if the writers knew this, but Hee-Do has a similar backstory to Kim Junghwan on the Korean team. Kim's dad is the reason why he fenced at school. When Kim won his international competition in 2005, he was disqualified for testing positive for illegal substances, but he continued to fence because of his dad. Then Kim's dad died but he is still a motivation for Kim to continue fencing
