Hello! I turned 50 August 12 & planned an extended weekend in New Orleans, my favorite American city. Ended up having a group of 12 and it was a TIME! I started pre-planning (researching vendors, etc) 4 years in advance and for real planning (bookings, etc) 1 year in advance. Shortly after my 49th birthday I got a great promotion. Before my 50th I lost it to budget cuts. I almost canceled my birthday celebration but my sister talked me off the ledge. Completely changed my perspective on my work life. Making moves to stop my traditional working life sooner than I originally thought I would. I’m prioritizing living my life for my comfort, peace, and enjoyment. Your channel has been such an inspiration.

In general, I believe in having a family that helps each other thrive. So, for me, not helping grown family members only applies to when it puts me in hardship or perpetuates toxic patterns. Like constantly stepping in to help a family member that obviously isn't helping themself. Or taking on the emotional baggage when someone is putting little to no effort into healing themself.

I’m not staying silent when Black folks demand to collectively pray to their own deity when it is not possible to leave the space or room. I didn’t leave the United States’ to have heavy-handed Americans vomit their culture all over me out here, too. It’s also especially egregious for Black folks to ignore the wishes and silence the voice of a fellow Black woman. If *you* want to pray for me, thank you. But that doesn’t give you the right to pray *at* me if I’ve shared openly that it is not my comfort zone, preference, or happy place.
