Summary: 1. Seek to understand (ask questions for what they need and get clarity and then get better perspective) 2. Say what you’ll do (and do what you say - tell them about the process and then follow the process) 3. Involve them in the process (But just the right amount - and lead the process) 4. Keep files organize (properly) 5. Commit to outcome (Not just the task - don’t just make a website because they asked you to make one - think about why they need it) 6. Just be a good human - be a good person to work with (no matter what is happening in the project) nobody want to work with a drama queen - be professional Thanks me later (:

From my experience, how involved a client wants to be is extremely variable. It depends on the client. You have to learn how to tell how involved they want to be. I don’t know if I think advising all freelance designers to check in extremely often is necessarily great blanket advice. In general it is true, but it really depends. For some clients, you checking with them and waiting for them to sign off on every little decision will just irritate them. If you are working with small business owners, they will likely be extremely involved with the day to day operations of the company. Many of these business owners are hiring you specifically so they don’t have to think about their website, etc. If you ask them for too much, they may feel “what am I paying you for if you’re going to make me do this much work?” Granted, this type of client may not be the type of customer you want to work with much, but you may need to some in order to start building your business and portfolio. As you grow and start working with larger companies who are spending more money, they will likely be more understanding and appreciative of you checking with them often. Just my two cents. Great video as always.

Yes, I'm not sure I said check on "every little decision" but sorry if I gave that impression because that's not the case. I'm encouraging expected reviews at a few specific milestones during the life of a project. Too many check-ins stifle the work.
