I just got an interview date for PM position in a different industry than I am trained in. Also I have never been a PM but have been a part of many large projects and ran my own construction business. This video was helpful and reassuring that this job may be a god fit for me. Thanks!

On number 1, most PMs don’t get to choose their Supers, FEs and PEs. How do you build the team with the team that’s given to you? We have to develop people that don’t necessarily have the perfect experience and skill set for a given project.

I agree. I really you would choose them though. It is what is broken in our industry. Great builders like Frank Crowe had a loyal and dedicated team that was curated. And they nailed it. At BSRL I helped hire many of the team and was able to implement lean more than if we were boat aligned. The 9th waste in construction is unhealthy conflict. And this problems doesn’t help.

If you listen to the words in an experienced learning manner or in a way that is your personal truth/knowledge coming out of J-Money’s mouth, then what Jason and his team share is amazing and an honor to our profession. Thank you for your continuous sharing of knowledge.

This is awesome. I’m currently a student at NKU going through the CM program. I’ve Co-Oped with 6 companies so far and this is great advice.

Jason Schroeder, I need your help. You are an inspiring person for me. I have watched all your videos and have purchased a couple of books from you. I have a few quick questions. If I work for a general contractor as a superintendent and a subcontractor is subcontracting to another subcontractor with 1099 employees, what do I need to ask for to protect the company as a superintendent?

Jason, regarding financial management, what is the best strategy to ensure staying within budget when no contingencies are allocated? It seems common in our industry to continuously 'shop' for subcontractors until finding one that offers a 'healthy' margin. However, I find this approach time-consuming and it often results in hiring lower quality subcontractors. How do you handle this situation?
