6 Things I HATE About My BMW i8 Roadster...

Before I bought my 2015 i8, I had seen all the complaints that you mentioned, so even though I loved the tech and the way the car looked I had a lot of concerns. My main worry was a lack of power. My prior car was a 2013 F10 M5 with 560 (underrated) horsepower so I was used to a fast car. My first i8 test drive surprised me. With the electric torque delivery and great throttle response, it felt quicker than my M5. In 2015 Car & Driver and Road & Track both tested the i8 and got 3.6 and 3.8 to 60. That’s good enough for me. I’m sure that at higher speeds my M5 would pull away but I never drive over 100 so that doesn’t matter to me. Yes, the NSX is quicker, but it has almost zero electric range and I use electric mode a lot and would really miss it. Plus, I don’t think I would get 44 mpg in the NSX. I would also miss the back seat which my wife and daughter use for short trips and I use for shopping. BTW, I don’t have a problem with the doors because I NEVER park next to anybody. 😀 let the haters hate all they want. I’ll bet most of them have never driven an i8. I have owned many cars but this one is my favorite. I’m glad that you said that you loved the car at the end because I was beginning to wonder!

Wow thanks for your comment Michael! Looks like you’ve really enjoyed the i8. It definitely gets a lot of hate because of the price tag and performance, but I agree the power delivery is very good and so fun to drive. Definitely no regrets :)

@@2010frankieg Another comment from someone who has never owned or driven an i8. I do most of my local driving in electric mode. If 20-25 miles is almost zero to you, you must must have studied alternative math.

@@michaelc2254 you see my picture you poser. that's my brother Mario barrios , fought kieth thurman , gervonta davis. he has one I drove it plenty , he got rid of it. please don't talk to me about math when your fake ass doesn't even have a picture up. please stop your assumptions. there is a reason the car depreciated so badly. hell no 30 miles on electric isn't good for the drive duration and time to charge. major motor companies and countries are pushing to end petrol car sale and production by 2030 and indefinitely by 2040. there are already cars getting so much more in driving distance.

but the amount of money it saves you on gas makes up for it. the i8 is my dream car and it is truly in a class of its own. Consider yourself lucky to have one and appreciate it. good luck man

I just rented an I8 for the weekend. It's so fun to drive and looks amazing gets tons of attention and compliments. If I had the money to buy one I'm on the fence. Getting in and out is kinda a pain in the butt.

Hey Pat, yeah it's quite large! If you move the seats forward you can definitely also fit large signs and thin boxes, by putting them upright. Pretty cool

the advertised time for these 0-60 was about 4.2 however, with a simple tune and exhaust you can get it easily to 3.8 or more, and its possible to fit nicely wide wheels and tires on it and stiffer suspension since it's not air suspension like many new sports cars. After all of that It actually does have really good performance potential you just have to wake it up after buying one.

Have Alex Meyer tune your car and add a Pedal Commander. I have a draggy confirmed 0-60 of 3.7. And with those mods the take off torque from a standstill is awesome.

I love BMW, because it's so beautiful plus it decrease value super fast, just purchased a used 2016 BMW 750ix last thanksgiving (in 2019) with low millage, excellent condition, one owner with no accident, Looks like brand new, it has almost all the feature can add, almost $20,000 opinion, 20 inches wheels, executive package, upgrade Bowers and walking diamond surround sound system, upgrade double sunroof with beautiful LED light, "self driving" safety plus, adaptive laser headlight, self parking..... MSRP is almost $120,000 in 2016, I got it from Carmax in Nov 2019 for only $36998. Love it. the car didn't have any issues at all since i purchased it.

Generally, this speed argument is only an issue with younger people anyway, who think it somehow affects their reputation. I've had a Coupe for the last four years and my experience is that I've often been too fast in a short time. And in Switzerland that can be very very expensive. But the i8 is just a really fantastic tourer for long trips. That's why I'm now looking for a roadster.

The i8 doors actually require less space to open than a traditional style door of a Camaro, M8, Challenger, or any other traditional long door coupe . There’s videos out there where they measure the swing of different doors on different vehicles. I personally NEVER have parking issues with my i8.

Gosh, then do NOT charge it. Last year I did 9 days in Italy with my i8 - and you know how often I charged it? 0. Well - 1. I started the trip charged. But otherwise I just used it in Sport mode to reload and my fuel consumption was still AMAZINGLY low.

Hardly a Prius. You should drive one before making that judgement. I have a 2019 i8 Roadster. It's incredible and I think Charlie makes way too much of doors being blocked when parking. I've never had that happen.

Cause baby everytime I drive my i8 I can come home with a different chic everyday not that i do lol. The attention I get is nuts. It's a beautiful looking car. But for speed I have my xjl jag 575hp or my range rover 2023 523hp

164k is the MSRP! i8 leases at about half the cost or less of those other cars, due to inflated residual, huge selling price discount, and other manufacturers incentives. Way different cost of ownership than those beast cars lol

@PureSwank I personally do think its worth to buy this car tbh. 1)Cheap Roadtax 2) As high head turning/eye capturing as an aventador( review by carwow) 3)fuel consumption of a Prius 4) drive as fast as a 911 Carrera 5) Flying door like a mclaren 6) four seaters for the coupe version which make it into daily drivable like a Bentley GT 7) chicks love this no doubt, and the pricing for a used car ..... nothing else are more convincing then this.

The NSX is more of what the i8 should have been, at least in performance if not overall practicality. The NSX is about as practical as you can get in a supercar, and reliability is well, it's a Honda. The i8 doors should have been scissor style NOT butterfly, or at least gull-wing like the AMG SLS. That was one of the biggest design errors BMW made for the i8. Better to have given it standard doors than what it comes with, JMHO.
