"Now I'm going to give it a Doug score. Starting with the weekend category for styling it's nothing amazing but it's 61 meter wingspan will turn a few heads so it gets a 6/10. For acceleration it does 0-60 in about 10 seconds which normally would give it a 1 but it does 0- 500 in about 2 minutes so i'll boost it to a 3/10. It's turning radius is a bit weak at about 55 meters so handling gets a 2/10. It's fun because it's big and has wings it gets a 7/10. Cool factor is high as most people will be jealous that you own one it gets a 8/10 for a total weekend score of 26/50. Next up is the daily category starting with features it has 200 Tvs 6 bathrooms and 3 kitchens giving it a respectable 10/10. Comfort is good you don't feel any of the bumps unless there's turbulence it gets 8/10. Quality is good the previous version lasted 50,000,000 miles before breaking down and this one should go a few million miles more it gets a 10/10. Practicality is good it has roomy front seats 350 back seats and impressive trunk space it gets a 10/10. Value is tough it costs $320,000,000 which makes it $900,000 per seat. But it can fly so it gets 5/10 for a total daily score of 43/50. Add it up and the Doug score is 69/100. The car community has been slow to warm up to this because of it's price and the fact that it's not a car but it's proof that weight doesn't mean everything."

I’ve had the pleasure of renting the i8 on two occasions. On one of those times my wife got an R8. I liked the i8 A LOT MORE. Better looks, cooler doors, more comfortable, better sound system, room for my two kids in the back, better cameras, cool heads up display, more intuitive controls and the sound of the i8 shifting is just a joy (even though it’s fake). The suspension feel changes from comfortable to sport mode. The speed feel was similar (the R8 was the V8, not the V10). The i8 is just an awesome car.

I have had 3 i8s own £4k mile Roadster. In 2021 Autotrader (UK main selling website used by dealers and private sellers) had 234 coupes and 67 Roadsters - in Feb 23 just 123 coupes and 20 ROADSTERS. when they get to 6 or 7 cars values skyrocket just like my SLS, Z8, CLS, 996.1 gt3 did....get one now while just over half retail as they'll be back at retail in 5-6 years and twice retail in 10-15 years !

Nathan Lucas Why does everyone hate the i8? I also prefer a V8 instead of Prius technology and this car with a V8 would be amazing. But no one unterstand that BMW shows us the sports car of the future with the i8. It also was used to develop and test carbon fiber in cars. The 7 series also uses carbon fiber because of the development with the i8. The only thing this car was built for is to make our current cars better and planing for the future. After all the i8 is still a great car (even with speakers in the exhaust). It’s a good daily driver with excellent styling, driving fun and very good fuel economy, but all we do is hating about the 3 cylinders and the high price. Someone who can afford this car doesn’t care about the money and BMW even loses money by selling an i8, because the production and developing is so expensive. This car opens us a little window to the future, shows us how technology is like in some years and guarantees us that we will get „somehow cool“ cars. While other sporty brands have nothing to rely on in future (because they still only think about V8s and steel) BMW knows how it works. All that because of the i8.

That exterior copper color is so impressive. The use of a speaker in the left-rear exhaust pipe is a bit gimmicky for me, but it's not a deal-breaker, either. Personally, I think this would be a lot of fun as a weekender vehicle. Great review, Doug.

Except the Audi and Lamborghini are way more expensive in a lot of places, because of emission tax. E.g. here in the Netherlands the i8 Roadster is listed on BMW's website for € 163,995 whereas the Audi R8 Spyder V10 is listed on Audi's website for €254,400. Used Huracáns are all in the €225,000 - €300,000 range. That's the big advantage the BMW i8 has: what you pay is for the actual car, not tax.

It's because neither of them are as focused on the hybrid as the 918, and thus don't have the similar electric power nor range. The McLaren and LaFerrari use electric motors as a substitute to low end turbo, whereas the 918 uses it as a complimentary drivetrain in itself.

It easy to open the front hood just need to take out the 2 covers in the driver and passenger doors on top and there is a latch just pull both of them on both sides passenger and driver then you need another person to help you lift the hood then put like a screw driver on those holes then your cool.
