Great tips! I did not do my research before adopting 3 females & it was a big learning curve. Did not realize females lay eggs even without a mate & need a place to dig & lay them.

Oh wow, did you know they were pregnant or did you only find out when they laid the eggs?

@@broden5546 they’re not fertile eggs without a mate, just normal eggs like what you would expect from a chicken, yellow yolk & white soft shell.

Thank you. Great info and I’m glad I actually live with the person that brought the healthy red eared slider into our home. But I’m enjoying learning more.

Great info, we got a rescue female. Pretty sure adult given her size. Settled in quickly and comes right over. We were debating on big fish with her later, but seeing this, she will keep her big tank for herself 👍

so nice of you to rescue her! and yeah, fish can really be hit or miss.
@pawsforblessings12714 сағат бұрын
@turtleholic We have seen videos where bigger once have worked. But after seeing your experience will not take chances. She is fun, as she comes right over and she seems okay with my husband holding her. It is never forced and wasn't expected. But was neglected lots before, bad water, no lights or basking area. So a bit of recovery, but going well now. They said yellow belly slider, but obviously a fully grown female red ear slider.

I’m so glad i found this video. My mom has two RES, both of them are rescued from bad situations. One of them, roma, is probably about 20years old, but we arent sure about the other one, Largo. I found this video because i was looking into RES behaviors, as largo has attacked roma multiple times over the past month. We’re probably going to re-home largo, but we’re really upset about it.

I’m sorry to hear that! Unfortunately it is common for RES to be territorial/aggressive to one another. That was really nice of your mother to take them in.

The turtle needs a giant pondliner and sunshine. Dig and install a wire enclosure undergound. That then goes over head. And over a deep pond liner. Also in winter they need indoor space too

How do you clean the sand? I love the idea but rocks seem easier to clean. 🤷🏻♀️ I probably just need your filter. Filter recommendations appreciated. 0:39
@turtleholic19 күн бұрын
I think both sand and rocks get equally dirty, but rocks look a lot better aesthetically because the waste isn't as noticeable. I don't really clean my sand that often, I usually just rely on my filter. However, my filter usually gets pretty dirty every 2 weeks or so, and when that happens I have to clean the sponges or else waste will start building up on the sand. This is the filter that I use: amzn.to/3ZDOrDL

Are you planning on getting more turtles , I think common musk turtles, spotted turtles and wood turtles are the best pet turtles to have, because they stay small and easy to take care of?

I got the exact same turtle since I was 5 and she got really big.There's so much so that we have to change the tank 2 tomes and we're even thinking about changing the tank again. To be honest I'm only just now barely doing research aboutt taking care of her and I realized I've been neglecting her really badly. I feel so bad now. I don't fully neglect her. I change the water and during the summer. We let her out into a little kid's pool. But she outgrew it and now she get, so we don't do that anymore. Do you have any other advice? I should consider?
@michelleasunnydays1404 ай бұрын
No wonder it dont like being picked up. You need to pick it up from both sides. By pushing on its top shell and bottom it is not evenly distributed weight. Try being more gentle on both sides

If your heater isn't working, you should try this one (amzn.to/3WE4EYG). It also comes with a thermometer so you can monitor the temperature of the water.

Thank you. This was helpful. What aquatic turtle species would you suggest if I want to add fish and can be maintained in an adult in a 75-gallon tank? @turtleholic
@turtleholic7 ай бұрын
That’s a great question! I think a good option would be a spotted turtle. They don’t grow past 5 inches, and they are not as good at hunting fish compared to sliders, painted turtles, and other aquatic species.

Usually females have shorter claws/nails. You can also sometimes tell based on the tail. I think your best bet is to look on google images
