I think the water part for red ear sliders can have some some variation because I realised my red ear is way happier when I allow it to free roam instead of having a large water body, because the shear size of my apartment makes up for the turtle’s needs for a large waterbody, I just had a deep litterbox filled with water and a ramp for it to go in and out
@turtleholic9 ай бұрын
Yeah some red eared sliders might prefer more roaming area vs swimming, I think it’s just best to make sure they at least have some area to swim around in since they spend the majority of their lives in the wild in water

Can you share a photo??? Like Reddit? Facebook, Instagram or even KZbin?? I’d really appreciate it if you could share your idea, I’m starting to believe that mine would love your style Rather than a tank lifestyle 😅

I do this too! I rescued an adult RES last year but since I live in a small space I don't have enough room for a massive tank. I let her roam around a lot and she loves to wander around, climb things, and explore. It's also been a great motivation for keeping my floors clean!

Our turtle Taco Pete free-ranges in our house a few times a week. He listens for my voice and follows me from room to room. He loves to climb over shoes, a pile of blankets/towels, etc. I've been surprised how social he is.

With the filter you have are you able to reuse the sponge for it?

Yep, I just wash the sponge every two weeks or so. Here is a link to the one I use: amzn.to/3OphXXx

If you are able to purchase stuff on amazon, this light that I use (amzn.to/3WU1IqW) only costs $17 and it has both UVA and UVB light, so you wouldn't need two different bulbs.

My friend has a turtle in her apartment. It rarely goes in water, and when she does put it in her tub, she doesn't add water purification drops so it's tap water. It also hasn't see sunlight in months. Makes me sad 😢 I keep telling her to give it to someone who can actually properly care for it. Any suggestions? Anyone?
@turtleholic19 күн бұрын
I’m really sorry to hear that. Maybe there is a turtle rescue in your area. Or maybe she can put it up for free on Craigslist or Facebook marketplace.

I adopted a super tiny red eared slider. She only weighs 10 grams and is less than 2 inches head to tail. I have her in a twenty gallon tank that's less than half full. Should I give her deeper water? Also, any other hatchling advice would be great. Thanks!!! 13:08
@turtleholic19 күн бұрын
That’s wonderful! I think half full is fine for now since she’s so small. Is she eating regularly?
@laurieyancey60318 күн бұрын
@@turtleholic Yes! Finally. She didn't eat for a month, while recovering. Now she's eating several of the ReptoMin sticks every evening. She spits out the ZooMed Hatchling Formula. I give her options, but she's a picky turtle.

Hey there , I just got myself a 1 inch red eared slider I think it's a baby so can you suggest me a routine for it and the times I should give pellets to it and also what else can I feed it
@turtleholic9 ай бұрын
Nice! You should feed your baby turtle pellets 1-2 times per day. I’m terms of amount, you should feed them as much as they can eat for around ~5 minutes. I’m not sure what pellets you already have, but I’d recommend pellets that are made specifically for baby turtles because they are smaller and easier to digest and have the required nutrients. If you are using a different type of pellet and your turtle is eating them fine, then that is okay. Since baby turtles grow a lot, they need a lot of protein. Aside from pellets, some high protein options are insects and/or freeze dried shrimp. You can get this on amazon. I’d recommend only giving your turtle these 1-2 times per week so they don’t get too dependent on them. Hope this helps!

I have two RES turtles that i think are about seven years old. Their shells are seven to eight inches long, and i think they're female. I'm very new to the turtle world. My problem is finding a good vegetable based food for them to eat. Ive tried kale, carrots, and zucchini. Obviously there are a lot more options ,but i really want something in a pellet form that i can monitor easily. All the products i see available are loaded with animal protein. Ive got jars and jars of that. Can you recommend something for me? Help me Obee Won Kenobi, you're my only hope...
@turtleholic2 ай бұрын
What worked best for me was not feeding my turtle for 2-3 days. And then when she got really hungry, she was way less picky and started eating the vegetables. Maybe just try to cut up the veggies extra small.

@turtleholic4 ай бұрын
You can start with a 75 gallon, but eventually they will probably need at least a 125 gallon. If they still aren’t basking, you should check out this video I made: kzbin.info/www/bejne/m565f3-meMmZhpY

Hi! I have some questions, how do I know if my turtle is eating? I throw pellets and dried shrimp at him but he doesn't seem interested, and when I come back to check it does not seem like he has eaten any. It's been 4 days since I got him, he is a baby red ear slider, Should I try giving him mealworms?
@turtleholic8 ай бұрын
Hey, it’s perfectly normal for a new turtle to be scared to eat in front of its owner. It may take a couple days or a week or two for them to get comfortable. You should be fine feeding him just pellets and shrimp. Just make sure the food is small so they can easily eat it. If he still won’t eat after a couple weeks, you should watch my video here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/g36re2ywgt6JjLs
