Thank you so much for the refill tutorial. I bought a refill kit but haven't used it yet.

I actually used a hole saw and made a cut out through the wall for the hose to fit through. On the outside hole I covered it with an a spring loaded outlet plate. The hose I bought was 12' long so this allows the tank to remain outside and my Mr Big Buddy can be moved around for the best location.

I keep my tank on my grill. I have two other 20 lb tanks in the garage. I buy empty ones at CostCo for $43 and have them filled at Tractor Supply. I think it was $17 to fill. That way I know I have a brand new tank and a completely full tank. Exchange tanks are a crapshoot.

Good plan! I think mine are around that too. Maybe a little less.

I’ve bought over a dozen tanks for real cheap at auction. I get them filled at the local hardware or if they are the old style I exchange them at the gas station

Exchanges are great for getting a newer tank and getting rid of the end of life tanks ready to expire.

True. Don't overspend on Blue Rhino. Farm & propane outlets can flush the tank as well......

Brass cap tip. The first time I used them my Buddy Heater wouldn't start. What I eventually found out was the problem was that the rubber gasket had stuck to the bottle and I hadn't noticed it yet was able to screw it on, but that was enough to stop the propane from getting to the heater. Took of the gasket and it started right up. I had the same thing happen a 2nd time but knew how to fix it right away. Hope this helps someone.

You can get adapters to refill the normal one pound canisters, sure they say you aren't supposed to but it works.

I have a old stainless steel fish cooker built in the 70s that has heated my entire house with a 20 lb tank 5 or 6 feet away in bad times. It is fully stainless and built by a certified boiler maker and majority of it is tig welded. Put a 25 gallon stainless pot on it filled with food you won't even miss electric heat for a few days.

The fuel filter is a good idea, since Mr. Buddy is a catalytic heater and the catalyst clogs and dies if impurities get into it.

How much time did you have the paint grid on the heater? Would the paint grid get hot enough to melt the buddy heater handle?
@TheBugOutLocation6 күн бұрын
I had it on there for over a half hour. Boiling the water and cooking the hotdogs. The handle is fine, but I did think about that. I might insulate it somehow in the future when I use it.

My Buddy smells like Oil since I bought it, followed all the steps, and purchased the Filter and Hose, could it be a bad filter?

I don't give a rat's hat about the law; I keep 5, 20 lb propane tanks in my basement in case of emergency. I have for almost 30 years now with zero issues.

The directions specifically state you should never operate gas in between lock positions. Low, Medium, High are the only factory options, not in between low and medium.

Thank You. Good tips. I like the brass caps and the painting gadget the best. My own safety tip: Don't fry bacon when yer nekkid!😆

Those 1lb gas bottles are stupid money over here in the UK - £24 (nearly $30 US) each

Damn! Do you know why that is? Regulations?

@@TheBugOutLocation I think that it is a mixture of imports costs and that most of our appliances use a smaller thread - it is only really the imported Buddy heaters that use them - so lack of competition

I have 2 big buddy heaters for a couple of purposes but there's no way a buddy heater will heat a larger room for extended periods with out using huge amounts of propane, very small room yes, big open floor plan no. Buy the mr heater 30,000 ventless propane heater and run it off of a 100lb propane tank. Cheaper and better to use after initial costs.

Congrads, you're a hack. I mean, what else would you call someone who thinks they can "hack" life? Why not hack some more, take it away Georgie! " What are the main things we have to wash? Hair, croutch, asshole and teeth. And you would save a lot of time if you use the same brush for all of them." -George Carlin (Life is not a game, it can't be hacked.
