Fuelkegs have a flaw during the welding part. Sometimes the welders leave the beads inside the tank without cleaning them out. And they get stuck in the valve if you turn the tank upside down. I ordered 4 FuelKegs and only one of them didnt have the beads. You can shake them around to hear it. So i ordered 15 more of them to Home Depot so i can pick out 3 good ones. 10 of them were full of beads. One had only a small amount of beads, and 4 were perfect. I kept those 4. So now i have 5 perfect FuelKegs out of 19 ordered.

Flame King has the exact same flaw. I bought both brands and they all have pieces of loose weld inside. Not all have that but most do unfortunately. Also, many Flame King bottles have a tendency to wobble badly due to base being welded too high and the bottom of the bottle protrudes, causing the wobbling.

As far as the twist gas relief valve I find that it gets in the way when connecting it to the Buddy Heaters As far as the Flame King Allen wrenches, I keep all my fittings, spare Fuel caps, and 2mm Allen wrenches in a clear plastic container bin, so when it's time to refuel, everything is right there. I worked in the propane business for about 3 years. If you over filled it, it would be dangerous to even use it. As long as you stopped filling when you got a steady stream, you didn't over fill it. I think the valve seat sometimes gets stuck open a tad with frost when filling. You could try putting it back on the fill device and then removing it. This may open and close the seat to a proper seal. I think these Kegs should have a lifetime warranty against leaks. However, I tend to think this is just a issue that can happen in the filling process. Propane is very cold and creates a icy condition. Remember, when the supply tank is upside down, the propane being sent into the Fuel Keg is liquid. Very cold. Cold enough to give you a severe frost bite.

Since the only time you need an allen wrench with the flame king product is when refilling, it's a non-issue for me. I just take a piece of duct tape and secure the wrench/key to the charging stand between refill sessions. BOTH the flame king and fuel keg are a VAST improvement over the "one use" versions in terms of cost and environmental footprint. Most municipal recycle programs don't accept "misc. steel" items, and thus few non-refillable tanks are spared from the landfill.

I too had issues with putting brass caps on the Mr. Heater Fuel Kegs. The brass caps screwed on easily to single-use bottles, both the squat 16 oz and tall 14 oz plumbing torch bottles. But they will not go beyond 1 turn on the Kegs (two of them). They fit reasonably well but still very tight on the 3rd Keg I bought. Guess I need to contact Mr. Heater.

@@EastTexasHomestead The pattern is indeed correct, but I don't think cut quite deep enought. The single-use bottles screw onto the heater very easily. Almost a little loose. Two of the Fuel Kegs screw on too, but there's a bit more resistance and near zero free play. Sort of nut-& bolt snug. It makes you glad that you have the leverage of a large diameter can to grip your hand onto. The 3rd bottle spins on almost as easily at the single-use cans. Make a custom tool for removing these valves and replace them for each refill. The custom tool was a wood screw for removing the nylon collar in propane cylinder. On the other end of the screw cut off the screw head and drill a hole up the center of the screw and also cut a slot in it to fit the valve. 100 new valves for $10. Good job on the video.

A plastic cap on the top is NOT meant to stop leaks, it could never hold the pressure, it is to keep dirt out in storage. The valve inside the cylinder is supposed to seal it; your leak is in that seal. The seal either has a manufacturing defect of a bit of debris has caught between the sealing surfaces. The biggest problem long term with these cylinders and portable propane appliances is dirt in the propane plugging an orifice or holding a seal open, iether from your nurse tank or stuff getting into the hoses and tanks.Try to reset the seal by bouncing the seal or refilling it again. BTW I have been refilling the normal 'non refillable' ones for years and just bought some of the refillable ones too.

You left out an important point. I have been using the Flame King system for a few years with their tanks with no problems. Recently I saw that the Mr. Heater fuel kegs were about four or five dollars cheaper that the Flame King tanks and ordered a few. When I tried to fill the Fuel kegs with the Flame King filler system I couldn't get the tanks to purge. Further investigation revealed the you must use the Mr. heater filling system with their tanks because they have a pin that depresses a detent that allows gas to pass through the tank neck to the purge valve. Your tanks will only fill to roughly half capacity if not using the Mr. Heater filing system. I have ordered a Mr. Heater filing system and I suspect that it will not work with the Flame King tanks because I think that the pin that protrudes down into the filler neck is going to bottom out and not let the filler collar to tighten down all the way. Any body out there know if the Mr. Heater filler will work on the Flame King tanks? I'll give an update when mine arrives.

Concrete cracks and poop happens. Regardless of brand, once in a while a bad apple is going to slip through. I like the fuel keg system a little better than Flame King's, but both are good systems and we'll worth the investment.

I have two Fuel Kegs. I don't use them a lot, mostly used on a single mantle lantern when camping. My last refill, I had a problem. After I took it off the refill manifold, the propane leaked out draining the Keg in just over a minute. It's the older of my two, ( I got them two months apart from each other) , but it's over a year old. Does anyone know how long the warranty is?

Can the flame king or Fuel keg be refilled without the special filling adapter. Are the separate filling adapters specific to the brands. I've been refilling the green coleman bottles for years and have a filler hose with valve. Will this hose work on the Flame king and Fuel keg bottles?
@OutdoorsWonder28 күн бұрын
i dont know about the coleman but it clearly says on the label " do not refill" otherwise flame king and fuel keg have their own refill adapter and will not work together.

If the refillable little tank is 100 percent filled. Were is the room for expansion when and if the tank gets warm. Propane tanks are normally only filled 80 percent
@EastTexasHomestead2 ай бұрын
The tank is designed to always keep that 20% room for expansion. When the liquid starts spitting out, it is at 100% of what you can put in but only 80% filled.

After I tighten the propane bottle to the adapter, propane spews out from the top of the nut that screws onto the top of the propane bottle when I press down on the lever. Propane is not supposed to come out until it's full, especially when it's not full. It spews out immediately when I press the lever. The threads don't look stripped, and the kit is new. I'm not sure what's going on. Does anyone know why it's doing that?

It all depends on what you're using it in. If a Little Buddy, it will last around 5.5 hours. If in the Buddy FLEX, it would be 2 to 3.5 hours - depending on the setting. In colder weather, like -5C, you will get a little worse performance, but hopefully, the room will heat up as you use it.

How many 1pound tanks do you get from a 20 pound tank
@EastTexasHomesteadАй бұрын
I guess it depends but I’d guess a solid 18 or 19. There will be some loss so you won’t get 100% of it. The other thing to consider is does your 20lb tank have all 20lbs or is it filled to 15 like most of the ones you swap?

I'm still not sure what I'm doing wrong but I've tried over and over again and this is what happens when I connect the keg to the refill kit I line up the 2 pins where their supposed to be and tighten down. I turn on the gas from 20lb tank and turn the pin on the keg and and proceed to fill but when I do 2 things don't happen. One I don't hear any hissing continuously like iEVERY video I've watched on this it's does for about 3 seconds then stops and secondly I never see vapor escape to tell me it's full. (Probably because it doesn't fill because of the no hissing). When I disconnect and shake there's very very little inside the fuel keg. I even bought a pressure tester for the tank. I'm homeless and live in a tent and money is very scarce these days and I desperately need this thing to work to keep me warm. If possible please explain to me what I can be doing wrong cause I even bought the first 2 back to the store and replaced them but obviously now I see I'm doing something wrong
@EastTexasHomestead2 ай бұрын
@@danthesteelersfan69 thanks for reaching out. The only thing I can think of is that your 20 pound tank is empty. Well, not exactly empty, but there is only vapor in it and not any liquid. Try shaking your 20 pound tank and see if you can fill liquid in it. They (20lb Tank) can be quite deceiving and you think that it’s full because the tank itself is relatively heavy, but it could just have vapor in it. You can spend 20 minutes and never get a mist to come out, but it has a slight hiss. Hopefully this helps. Best of luck and stay warm! Happy Thanksgiving
@spiffmaster1Ай бұрын
i just got my first one today and watched videos on how to fill. what happened to me was i also got no hissing . re watched the video and saw that when you turn the ring valve to the left to release the gas out and allow the liquid to enter you need to turn it to 90 degrees left but it wants to stop at about 30 degrees . you need to force it to 90 degrees and it will..then it will top rotating. Then you will hear the gas hissing as it escapes . it worked ok after that. g

@EastTexasHomestead if you have the Fuel Keg refillables you NEED the Fuel Keg refill kit . Other one won't work . Only fills less than halfway
