I remember that the youth flying club wasn’t that accessible too. Either that or most kids wouldn’t have the exposure to know to join the youth flying club unless they come from at least upper mid-class family backgrounds imo. Also even though they often say that “anyone can apply” to be a pilot, the compass test and other tests quite literally require applicants to have prior training to pass. The competition is stiff so kids who have “tuition” (YFC) have an immense headstart. It’s designed to be an “aptitude” test but it has become more like “who has more prior training”. Yes, the world is unfair in that way.
