Great advice as always Norm. I found if you don't have a clean or safe area to rest your reel on the ground while stringing your rod, I take my hat off and put it on the ground upside down. Now I can place my reel inside it where it is safe.

I have been fly fishing for for over 50 years and have been doing most of those tips, there were a few I haven't been doing like magnetic rod holder. I didn't know that was a thing, but that seems like a great idea.

Norm wonderful review of the basics and then some. When you have finished hooking your point fly to the rod do you have any tips on securing the dropper to the rod. When sneaking through brush I have hung up this fly on branches. If I remember to bring them I use the flexible rubber zip ties to secure it. Thanks, Nick

I know I spoke to you in the shop about this, but to share with the public, you can use little dental rubber bands. Slide the bands onto the rod blank end of the butt section before assembling the rod. Then you can hook the dropper the band to keep it from swinging around. The band can stay on the rod and doesn't interfere. Thanks for the question and for watching.

And don’t leave your rod on top of the car when you drive away!😬we made it from Bert Clancy to the intersection in Pecos village before it fell off and we proceeded to run over it.😬 😢My first rod I built.
