2:13 1) Work in short BURSTS, length depending upon ability. 2-15 minutes 2:35 2) ALTERNATE strenuous tasks with lighter/sitting tasks (sorting, bills, writing lists) 3:06 3) Take frequent BREAKS to avoid physical and mental burnout. Take care of yourself because if you are worn out, then you are not of any use to anybody 6:44 6) Take true breaks, do something joyful 4:29 4) Talk kindly and POSITIVELY to yourself. Deal with your limitations. Don't beat yourself up, don't regret your limitations 5:09 5) Listen to peppy MUSIC, audiobooks, lightweight videos. Many are available for free through library.

Thank you. I think what healthy people don't understand is that chronic illness is draining on the mind. So your tips, like listening to an audio book while folding clothes, is important--more so than than healthy women would ever realize. I had wondered what other women who are chronically ill were doing with the flylady routine, so it was just nice to hear from you.

I have several auto immune diseases including myasthenia gravis. I was so overwhelmed with fatigue. Finally I remembered what my mom told me. All you can do is all you can do. Some days are good, some are not, enjoy what you can do and have a attitude of gratitude. Life is good.

Deanna Sinclair I never did get to make that video. Some days 15 minutes is a lot for me too. On those days I do things in even smaller spurts. Like I will unload what I can of the dishwasher while my tea is brewing or my oatmeal is cooking. If I have to go in a room I will try to pick up a little clutter in the couple of minutes I’m in there. When I brush my teeth I wipe the bathroom counter. Little things done throughout the day can really add up.

TY TY TYI've been chronically ill for a good many years. I cannot remember feeling good and I'm 60. I just clued into how important 15 minutes is when keeping a house. I work on my home 15 minutes every hour until one full hour is reached. It's miraculous. For the other three quarters I do what suits me, like read, nap, watch fave Netflix. My home has always been the shining beauty or the cluttered dirty disaster. Now, I feel better and know I'm doing my very best on my home and don't beat myself up.

I have found a tall bar stool that I sit on to do dishes helps my back to not hurt as much. Sounds lazy to those who don't know, but it helps me get more done. Also on some days I will use an old belt and strap the heating pad to my waist/back while in the kitchen. An extension cord helps me get up and go across the kitchen for things. Heating pad Not recommended while doing dishes! (electric does not mix with water!!) I sometimes vacuum or mop while sitting. Otherwise it just wouldn't get done.
@Mytitus2journey
@Mytitus2journey 7 жыл бұрын
I love these ideas! The strapping the heating pad on is a hoot- and practical! Love it and am going to give it a try. My daughter Rachel clips the TENS to her belt and does things while it's going- like you said- not dishes. ;-)

My chiropractor told me to open the cupboard door when doing dishes & put one foot up on the shelf. It relieves the pressure on the small of your back. When I was working at a job where I had to stand a lot, I put my lunch in a small plastic toolbox & put it under the table. I would put one foot on it at a time to help make standing more bearable.

I so feel you about the rib thing! People don’t understand. But I so understand. I have a rare genetic disease called Ehlers danlos syndrome, and one of the main things we deal with(but definitely not the most severe, unfortunately) is joints that dislocate whenever because we make defective collagen, so the tendons and ligaments do not hold my joints together because they are like stretched out rubber band that doesn’t spring back. So ribs,hips, knees are constantly dislocating. Thanks so much for this video. I needed it so bad🤍. My two sons have this, too. And we have ADHD as well😅🥲. So that’s a whole nother thing. I needed the encouragement so bad.

We also have EDS as well. We also have some ADHD going on as well as Fibro, MCAS, and I have Hashimoto’s. Good ideas! I've had iron deficiency anemia and my energy levels tank really fast. One thing I find helpful is having a "grabber tool" so I don't have to constantly bend over and pick stuff up off the floor. I also get hubby to do the more strenuous jobs like vacuuming &a bathing the kids, while I try to work on gentler chores like laundry and dishes.
@Mytitus2journey
@Mytitus2journey 7 жыл бұрын
That grabber tool sounds like a great thing to have. I may have to look into one! One thing that has helped me with vacuuming is to have a light dust buster type vac. I bought one off of Amazon and love it. I'll put the link to the one I purchased down below. It picks up as good as my big heavy one. I often use it instead of sweeping. ;-) I'm sorry it's taken me a while to get back to you. I will be posting an update video that will explain everything in the next few days. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00OHTKVM2/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Ircar47, I am totally with you. I suffer from depressions, too, however, additionally I suffer from a very bad back - and I mean bad. Actually, doing dishes manually is far better for my back than filling/emptying the dishwasher. So many tasks are barely manageable for me and I get tired quite quickly. This video confirms what my physician always says. I just don't listen to him because I too feel I have to do more, even though I am not unduly tired after a day in the office. I wish there were more practical videos for people with back issues to help them getting on with their daily chores.

I struggle with depression & anxiety as well. I keep hearing my mother's choice in my head saying if you're going to do it, do it right. Because of that & the depression / anxiety issues, I beat myself up if I don't do everything perfectly. Perfection is unattainable, so it's been a viscous cycle. I'm slowly getting better at ignoring it. Videos like this & Flylady really help. What I find really helps is to write down everything little thing I do, because sometimes I work really hard, but it doesn't look like it. Keeping my sink shined & bed made makes a huge difference in how I feel usually, but if I'm really down nothing really registers joy.

Thank you for this video, definately needed it today! I have to keep my self from marathon cleaning then being stuck in bed the rest or the week. 15 minute chucks are such a great idea! I will have to try them. Do you have a set cleaning routine or do you do what most needs to be done at that time? I’m having a hard time sticking to a cleaning schedule with chronic illness. God bless you too!

Thanks for making this video. You give some very good tips. I had pulled my back and as a result mostly sat for a month or so. Granted I did do some things, but the majority of the time was sitting. At the end of that time, I realized I had not done myself any favor for I think I lost some muscle or whatever. When I stood up, it seemed as if I lacked support in my back and it was hard for me to stand for very long. Then I read this: "Sitting is the new smoking." Yikes! :) So I started doing basically what you said regarding working in short amounts of time. I found the timer was the most helpful tool I could use. In addition, I was amazed at how much I could get done doing 5 -15 minutes at a time on a daily basis. I've been doing Flylady for a month and it is unbelievable how improved my home is. It encourages me to even do more. Again, thanks for making this video.

Yes, it is. Our library also has an app called Flipster. I haven't tried it yet, it's for magazines. I want to though.

do you sit down while doing dishes? I soak them for 10 minutes before scrubbing and rinsing them off. I have fibromyalgia, too.

I don't, I haven't found a way that works well for me. I also soak them before I put them in which helps a great deal! Also when I do the silverware I set the basket in the sink so that I'm not bending over a million times. ;-)

Hi I'm Lisa I have Congenital Hip Dsyplasia ,Sciatic nerve palsy and Traumatic Brain Injury so no prescriptions other then over the counter Advil which is fine. I don't want that stuff in my system anyway. I just wanted to say Thank you for your video because not everyone understands the standing for long periods of time can be put on a person with a disability just by rolling over I can pull a muscle and I'm down for a day and house work does not get done. I do have a dishwasher but it makes so much news it sounds like its going to quit so I don't use it we are in a rental so we can move things that is in here with out permission.

Lisa, thank you so much for stopping by. I don't have CHD but with our EDS we get frequent joint sublexations/dislocations and my hips can really be difficult. I already (at 54) have osteoarthritis in my knees from their dislocations and I have sciatica, so I completely understand how painful it can be to stand for a long period of time. I also have an issue with my intercostal nerve that can be very painful and any activity that uses my arms can be painful. Will your landlord fix your dishwasher? I do find that just doing a little at a time when it comes to dishes does help me a good bit. I also find that soaking them before I wash them is helpful. I will fill the sink with hot soapy water with baking soda in it (that really helps with things that are hard or cooked on) and wait until the water cools a good bit to wash them or load them in the dishwasher. That helps me pace myself which is vital on many days. I'm so glad you felt understood by my video, that is one of my goals. Thanks so much for watching and commenting! Blessings!

In my opinion it would depend on the author. I’m very careful with who I read. I don’t read trashy ones with sex and a lot of cursing. Some of my favorites are Agatha Christie, Anne Perry, Victoria Thompson, Charles Todd, MC Beaton, & Rhys, Bowen. I have read many of their books and they are graphic or trashy. Very good, captivating stories.
