What do you use to add motion blur to your footage? The transform effect? I really like this idea, although my camera only shoots 4K30. That said, in most cases I don’t need to slow my footage down, but it does help from time to time.

I film everything in 60fps and render out in 60fps. The 24 look is on its way out. Its just the way we have been used to se film, but this changes fast as more and more is filmed in higher fps, and the younger generation growing up are more used to high framrate from their video games and films on their phones. Motion blur for me just looks like slobby unfocused filming. And filming rock bands primarely, I like the crisp fast action in the concerts that 60 fps gets me. Also, when uploading to KZbin, to be sure you get the vp09 coedc or Av1 codec, you need to upload in a high framrate like 50fps or 60 fps preferably in 4k.

I wanna touch on the 180 degree shutter angle. In most cases, this is the perfect guideline, but there are times to break it. When shooting slomo, a 90 degree shutter angle is great because we don't necessarily need motion blur on slomo. Another instance is if you're dealing with a technical or impressive musician solo. Using 24fps and a 90 degree shutter angle can help bring a ton of clarity to the musical performance. This is INSANELY specific though. I film a lot of tech death bands, where the audience wants to focus on what's being played, so a 90 degree shutter angle works really well. It also can add a perception of more excitement, similar to handheld action scenes in war movies. The tradeoff is your light level. Tech death bands play in small venues with little light, so using 1/96 can cause it to be too low light causing you to crank your ISO. Now if you're shooting one of the flagship mirrorless cameras, this is less of an issue because it handles high ISO great, and then davinci resolve's Noise reduction is fantastic.

Lots more coming soon my friend! I’m really glad to hear that this video helped! I actually don’t use any picture profiles when I shoot concerts/festivals because of the incredibly fast turnaround time, but I do add some color correction/grading if need be, but it’s never more than a couple minutes of touch-ups. For my KZbin videos however, I shoot in S-Log or Picture Profile 7 on my Sony A7R III. Hope that helps!

This seems great for pros, but I'm looking to up my quality when I can only use my phone. For most shows I don't or can't get a photo/video pass so I don't even bother anymore. They generally don't care if you can use your phone though. Currently, I use my Pixel 7 Pro with 4k and 60fps, image stabilization, and other standard AI tweaks. I don't do any post-processing currently but looking at a lot of my videos I'm noticing KZbin lowers the quality quite a bit from the original footage. Also, with indoor shows, low light or red and blue light are generally my worst enemy and I'd love to know how to get the most out of it. I don't currently have any extra lenses so I typically only record when I'm close enough for the .5x, 1x or 2x; the 5x telescopic in the phone always produces too much noise for me.

How do you deal with LED walls and getting “black bars”
@TARIQABDELPHOTO
@TARIQABDELPHOTO Жыл бұрын
Yes, I’ve had this issue before. The appearance of those"black bars" on LED walls is often related to shutter speed & frame rate. To minimize or eliminate the bars, try adjusting your shutter speed to a multiple of the LED refresh rate. Obviously you can’t just know the refresh rate at the top of your head so I would recommend moving up in FPS up until they disappear. Start with 24FPS (and adjust your shutter speed accordingly, in this case 1/50th of a second.) If they continue to appear, move up to 30fps / 1/60th of a second. If they STILL appear, move up to 60FPS / 1/120th of a second. At this point you lose 4k quality most likely, but at least the black bar issue is hopefully resolved. 120 fps / 1/240th of a second is usually the last chance to hopefully have them removed. I’ve heard of cases recently actually where none of the FPS options removed the black bars (So perhaps a bit of luck is involved too. 🤞🏽) The reason for the FPS / shutter speed combo is due to the 180 degree shutter rule described in the video :) I hope this helps! And sorry for the delay on responding!

I use a directional sennheiser mic to get great live audio from the crowd, but i think using a portable audio recorder like the zoom h6 plugged directly into the soundboard or speaker will get you the best audio of the band's music. As far as low light situations in the concert, using an aperture of 2.8 for telephoto lenses what do you suggest the iso be? How high do you think before it gets too grainy? Assuming you're at 24fps and 1/50 shutter speed.

@TARIQABDELPHOTO
@TARIQABDELPHOTO Жыл бұрын
While a 50mm lens is a great lens for most types of photography, you will definitely want a lens that has zooming capabilities, like a 24-70 2.8 or a 16-35 2.8. If your lens doesn’t have a zoom option, you will simply have to move around more to get the composition you’re looking for. Hope this helps! @TARIQABDELPHOTO Жыл бұрын
@@mayalevyprojects Yes this also applies to shooting video! Although it's sometimes rare/unlikely that you'll "zoom in" in the middle of recording a video, but I would say the pros outweighs the cons, and a zoom lens is better than a prime lens in almost all cases when it comes to concert photo/video.

I have some questions about using 60 FPS and a shutter speed of 1/60. I post my videos on Instagram, which only supports 30 FPS video, so I set my timeline to 30 FPS to get technically the perfect shutter speed for 30 FPS. Is that correct? If so, why wouldn’t it be considered a cinematic shutter when I use 60 FPS? It’s the same motion blur as in the 30 FPS version, just with more frames, so it’s smoother, right? And what happens if I slow it down by 50%? Wouldn’t that also result in a natural shutter for slow motion? Because it would then be 1/60 shutter at 30 FPS? I’ve done some tests, and I think 60 FPS with a 1/60 shutter looks really smooth, and I really like it. What’s your opinion?
@phrdxo
@phrdxo 9 ай бұрын
I have a question about slow-motion. I normally record at 24fps with shutter speed set to 1/50 to maintain the famous "cinematic look" but if I wanted to record a few clips to recreate the slow-motion effect later, with my current equipment I could go up to 60fps, no more. Logically I then have to slow down each recorded clips at 60fps by 30%/40% in post production, but in order to maintain the "cinematic look" I should export the entire video at 24fps. So, the question is: will this procedure ruin the slow-motion effect for those clips originally recorded at 60fps?
@TARIQABDELPHOTO
@TARIQABDELPHOTO 9 ай бұрын
If I understand your question correctly - if you place a 60fps video on a 24fps timeline, it will still playback in 24fps and you will still have the option to slow it down to the maximum 40%. The variable being will it still have that weird soap opera look on a 24fps timeline? Let’s both experiment on that one lol But anyways, just make sure your shutter speed is set to around 1/120 or 1/125 when you record the 60fps footage. That said, if the soap opera look disappears on a 24fps timeline, then what else is stopping you from filming in 60fps the entire time then? Having all the footage in 60fps does give more freedom while editing for slo-mo, etc, however depending on the storage and gear you might run into overheating or run out of storage. Plus my camera doesn’t shoot 4K 60, only 1080p 60. Hope this helps! I just kept typing 😂

One of my best tips that I’ve done before is actually purchasing the song that you recorded from iTunes and overlaying it over your video with the distorted audio. (Hopefully you can actually make out and/or locate the song, if it’s EDM this could be difficult 😂) My most recent Seven Lions reel on my IG was saved by doing this. Outside of this, other audio effects in Premiere Pro or simply lowering the volume can help, but it will only lessen the impact of the distortion and not remove it completely.

Yeah! For the best concert videos on your iPhone 14 Pro (assuming you’re just shooting raw clips for an artist), shoot in 4K at 30fps. For anything slow motion shoot at 1080p 120fps. Shoot vertically and hold your phone very still when moving for less shaky footage, manual focus for clear shots, don’t digitally zoom in or out, and external audio for better sound. I know there are some mics that can attach to iPhones, but they might not be necessary, it all depends on if this is client work or not. If it’s just to post on socials the mic is not necessary. Turn off HDR mode & high efficiency on your camera. Use “most compatible” instead. I hope this helps!

what about filming actual musicians, not people playing records?

I would say a lot of the same principles apply! The only exception would be the last tip, since any other genre outside of electronic music doesn’t necessarily have a “rise & drop” - so I would just try and capture the best, emotional moments that tell the best story.

Your shutter speed being double your frame rate for a more cinematic look?

@@TARIQABDELPHOTO respectfully I don’t think so. At least not in the cinematography world I’ve been in. The 180-degree rule states that two characters (or more) in a scene should always have the same left/right relationship with each other. The rule dictates that you draw an imaginary line between these two characters (or subjects) and try to keep your camera(s) on the same side of this 180-degree line

@@TARIQABDELPHOTO it has to do more with rules of where you can’t move your camera when shooting a scene… the doubling the frame rate is right but not known as the “180 degree rule” from what I’ve experienced

Ah yes, I’ve heard of this too. There are two 180 degree rules, one in videography/filmmaking and one in cinematography. Give it a Google! Why they are both called the same thing I have no idea lol
