@sensam61554 жыл бұрын
THANK YOU, CHRIS!!!!!!! The first tip you gave was nearly the opposite of what I had understood to be the normal strategy against taller opponents; and it has made my ability handle taller guys so, so much better. I have very long arms for my height, so I have developed a long game that works well against people my size, but whenever I sparred with someone bigger, I found myself trying to use a style that I'm not comfortable with. I don't bob & weave and stay in the pocket like Tyson. But just by peppering their guard with straights and high kicks I have found that they no longer hang out just outside my range and inside of their where they can pick their shots. Instead, they hang out OUTSIDE both of our ranges and dart in; allowing me to use the same counter strikes I normally use with smaller guys!

@nicolascortes46283 жыл бұрын
1. Jab the lead hand to shift opponents weight to the back foot and force him to throw his rear. 2. Going past the jab to get into closer range. 3. Keeping opponents lead hand bussy and using head movement to distract your opponent of the fact that you passed the critical distance line 4. Slip to the outside of the taller opponents jab and throwing your own jab. 5. Changing levels and throwing a jab to the taller opponents body.

Lot of help this video showed me. I’m 5’11, just sparred my first tall, like tall opponent. Tallest usually I’ve fought is 6’2 which isn’t much difference, but today I fight a guy whose not just very experienced, but very tall. He’s 6’4 1/2, 80 inch reach, just ate me up with his jab. It was a friendly spar, he nor I hit eachother at 50-70% power. But I definitely needed to understand what I could do to improve. Cuz I feel like I missed opportunity during some moments. Next week I’m gonna come in better. There’s no winner or loser, just knowledge.

@evgeniantelo96977 жыл бұрын
The tips are useful however there was one thing that was overlooked. You don't always have to go forward and cut the distance as the shorter fighter. You can let the taller fighter come to you using educated footwork and give up his own reach. In this video Chris talked about Floyd Mayweather vs Diego Corrales and Floyd did exactly that. Stayed away from Diego and every time he gave up his reach Floyd was connecting. Another great fight where the shorter man won by moving laterally and backwards was the Terrence Crawford vs Victor Postol fight. Cheers!

Basically the most important thing I took from this is use your jab to distract the taller man while your trying to get in while protecting your head with either your other hand or head movement and then go ham on him from inside is reach for has long has you can because their punches from close are generally weaker.

I really enjoyed this video - I spar in kickboxing (not too experienced yet) and although i'm 6ft tall, I end up fighting people a few inches taller than me and it definitely brings up challenges of getting to the angle and distance where i can safely start landing some decent shots. A big problem i run into is getting flustered and overwhelmed when the taller opponent starts smothering me and landing shot after shot, even if I guard up it's hard to get out of there and find my bearings again. It's very disorienting. Do you have any tips for getting out of those moments ?

That depends, if you go straight for the legs, it won't work if he is planted. If you do a little misdirection though, it would. For example, if you manage to get on the inside, Go for a throat grab with your left arm so his focus is there, but then put your body weight with the momentum, and try to sweep his legs out if his he is not in stance where his legs are too far apart.

Rohit Goswami legs kicks is optional but be smart about using Leg kicks because me and my twin were sparring and I leg kicked him then we wrestle me out. Also... Do a Over hand

Utilizing the shift is another good tactic for closing distance as long as you have the coordination and foot speed to pull it off.

And in muay thai when you're finally inside against a tall guy you get the knee and you die. XD

My main sparring partner is 5'10 with 73' inch reach and I'm 5'7 with 68' reach. This dude lands so many goddamn jabs on me it's insane, the only thing I can do is just leg kick the crap out of him. I definitely need to learn to how to get in the inside better. Thanks guys
