The one about the guy that almost froze to death walking home from the pub really bothers me. People are so hard and cold and greedy for money that they can think of no one but themselves even on a freezing cold night, temps in the minus degrees. No one from the bar, no taxi would take him home. No one could be bothered except one exceptionally kind, compassionate soul. I hope that God blesses him for all of his days. Very glad to hear that the young man lived to tell the story. I hope he thanked his guardian angel properly when he was able (if the man left any contact information, that is.)

I remember when this happened... Its was so sad and tragic... Some people ostracized the survivors, for having to resort to canabilism. I'm sure it was difficult for them to have to eat their deceased friends, and they should never have been made to feel even more horrible than they already did... May God bless those who parished, and those who survived... When I was in Middle School, we had to read The Donner-Reed Party book... Very, very sad... Donner Pass is one of the most dangerous places on I-80, during the winter. Oftentimes Donner Pass is closed, due to the blizzards that come through.

Great topic! I live in Canada. Winter is something. You get used it, you know? Just passing through it's no more than an annoyance. On your way to work, in your yard, etc.. But every once in a while something will happen that catches you out there much longer than you meant to be. Or you find yourself woefully unprepared for whatever reason (a city 3 hours north of where you're used to, or you weren't expecting a blizzard that day) and the wind cuts through multiple layers of clothing. Temperatures of -20C and below are no joke. And it's not just the cold that can do you in. Ice can kill you just by slipping on it, or by weighing something down that then falls on you.

What they failed to mention is Beck Weathers medical evacuation was due to his wife Peach! She was mad as hell at him due to him not telling her where he was going and spending their anniversary on the greatest mountain in the world. She made call after call until she found a team willing to evacuate him! That’s the love of a wife. The amazing Rob Hall left behind a pregnant wife and many others including talented Sherpas lost their lives in that storm on the most dangerous yet magnificent mountain in earth!

The story made me think of what I witnessed when I was interning in LA. I was at a club with a few girls and at some point we were missing someone. I asked the others where she was and they said that she had to leave the club because she was too drunk. The girl who escorted her outside didn't know where she lived and she wasn't in a state where she could tell it. So apparently what she did was look up her last ride on Uber and put her in a car to that location. She ended up at some abandoned gas station in Compton, luckily for her the staff there was able to send her in a car home and she was alright in the end, but it could've gone very different. Reminded myself not to get drunk around those girls
