I noticed that your apple remote has some type of cool cover on it? What is it? It seems to give in a little more heft. Thank you so much for your videos. I've learned so much and have began setting mine up. You are a rock star

Yeah, it's a case for the apple tv remote with support for an airtag. I got this before apple announced a find my feature for the apple tv remote and haven't gotten a new case yet but if you want it here's the link: geni.us/RemoteCaseAirTag and i'm glad you're finding my videos helpful and starting up your own smart home! that's awesome to hear!!

1:55 I have an old iPhone X laying around if I created a shortcut on that, would it work even if my main phone isn’t on the same network?
@AdamsTechLife Жыл бұрын
Yeah as long as the phone you’re creating the shortcut on is signed in as the same Apple ID as your Apple TVs it’ll work

Hi, nice video, thanks. I have a question, do you know if there is a shortcut to set the Apple TV off in a x time?
@AdamsTechLife Жыл бұрын
not really. there's a built in sleep timer in the Apple TV that may be what you're looking for instead.

That morning briefing shortcut makes me rethink my HomePod morning briefing shortcut. Pretty sweet!

Very detailed information. When creating a shortcut is there a way to save the Apple TV name in a variable incase it changes or you can use 1 shortcut for all your devices. I don’t want it to ask every time as I use my main one 90% of the time.
@AdamsTechLife Жыл бұрын
You should be able to set the name as a variable though I haven't tried it so i can't say for certain.

Is there a way to create a short cut that wakes up the apple tv, opens youtube, and plays a specific youtube video in it?
@AdamsTechLife7 ай бұрын
to wake apple tv and open youtube, yes, but not to play a specific video :/

Is it possible to create a morning briefing shortcut that automatically runs at a certain time every day? Currently, I have a HomeKit scene set up for my home that turns on the lights and Apple TV at 7:15 am. I was wonderingssible to have a weather app displayed on the TV after the scene if it's also po runs.
@AdamsTechLife Жыл бұрын
Yes, just add a new automation in the shortcuts app, choose time of day, and put in your actions from there.

❤Thx bro, I have nanoleaf for backlight too, wondering how to set the 4D mirroring light after waking up TV😂 also I found myself couldn't set the light off after turning off TV 😢 any advice?
@AdamsTechLife Жыл бұрын
try adding a homekit action to control the nanoleaf lights when waking and sleeping the apple tv

I appreciate your effort into trying to figure out useful things to do with the little tools that Apple provided but I don't see myself using any of these. I think they got so close to making something useful but stopped short of it. IMO the main problem is the inconsistencies between apps. Eg I tried to do a "what did they say" shortcut, to rewind a few secs and turn on the subs for a minute, but it didn't work on 3rd party players... I like the snack time one though, I just don't have enough lights automated yet, for it to be useful to me...

Great info on all the shortcut functions for AppleTV. Is it still true that you can't have the AppleTV directly open a specific movie or video in a specific video app? E.G. creating a shortcut that will open Disney and immediately start playing an episode of the Mandalorian? I still see many people preferring to use the Roku streaming media player because it has an API that allows that level of integration and some smart home platforms fully support it. Interestingly, I noticed that Home Assistant stated that do support these kinds of "deep links" with AppleTV app and media content. Haven't tried it yet, but wondering why HA can do it but you can't do it with Apple's own Shortcut system? (I would be glad to learn if this is no longer true, but haven't found anything that shows how to do it directly with Apple Shortcuts at this time?)
@AdamsTechLife Жыл бұрын
This is true, the Apple TV can only open an app and not a show within that app, I meant to add that in. I have heard of Apple TV home assistants plugins but I haven’t tested anything yet but that’s a good idea. Thanks for watching! 😊
