Stoic philosophy teaches us the power of calm and measured words. Using verbal tricks to remain composed not only disarms aggression but also prevents you from falling into the trap of distorted arguments. It’s a brilliant way to maintain control and turn the situation in your favor.

Thank you for this lecture. Since childhood I have been dealing with insults with not nice words. I told a high school friend not to visit me. She seemed to go out of her way to tick me off. And I did not like the way I handled that. Thank you I get good information with your talks.

Apparently, I didn't do very well at all with my responses in the past. There were too many confrontations and verbal aggressions that could be resolved, without becoming enemies. I am in my fifties, and I still have confusion on dealing with these types of confrontation. I can see things more clear now. Thank you for sharing. Excellent.

Thank you for your useful words. The way we word what comes out of our mouth is so important. I am so grateful for all the lessons I am learning because it really works. We so many people that are always defensive and over loading their Mouth to say mean and unkind words to you. It takes skillful words to kind of wake up their thinking about what they are saying. I am listening with both ears sir.

As a self recognized high functioning autistic, I struggle with the subtleties of people’s intentions. And I ask clarifying direct questions about how they are trying to perceive the information that I am trying to convey. Are they asking because of what I said was completely lost on them or which part they misunderstood, that I am not going to change my stance, but how can I better explain what I was trying to convey in the first place, but explain it in a way they’d fully understand what I was saying in the first place. This is often preceived as confrontational, when in reality I work in a way you de-escalate or avoiding escalation.

Thank you for your powerful educative thoughts. The world is full of evil and deceitful people and we often have to know how to deal with that. Stoic philosophy has a lot of wisdom on how to learn from it. I want to ask if in addition to your videos it is possible to purchase a book or audio book.

The use of language in Stoic philosophy is not aimed at winning arguments but at guiding others toward self-awareness. Strategies such as avoiding verbal traps or employing subtle metaphors not only demonstrate composure but also encourage constructive dialogue. This underscores that maintaining values and integrity is the cornerstone of inner strength and lasting respect.

My daughter has a boyfriend who seems to be very nice. I joke a lot with him to make him feel at home since he moved into our house. I’m 72 female. Yesterday my daughter accused me of being in appropriate because I had told him he has two wives, me and my daughter. I was shocked and denied it profusely, then hours later I remembered I had said it in jest as a result of something to do with both looking after him. It was said as a joke! But what is awful is that this sort of thing happens all the time with my daughter accusing me of wrong motives. I’ve got to the point where I can’t no longer joke around him. It’s not jealousy on her part. She loves me to bits. And it’s not that he would say anything behind my back because his English is not great so most things go over his head. I can’t work out why this threat

Sure enough, a poof of gasoline fumes in a pile of raked leaves still takes a spark, eh ? Sure makes for perfectly caramelized marshmallows when a steady hand is on the stick, and the fire hasn't spread too far. Ain't that so?
