During flight training you are all fine right and not really thinking about will happen after you graduate. Let me be honest with you guys. Most flight schools get their hands of you as soon as possible. They did their job which is providing you a CPL with frozen ATPL and that’s it. Some good flight schools actually provide you some ‘after care’ after the flight training to make sure you get that first very important job. But as I said, many of them couldn’t care less. So a lot of people graduate and are released into the free world. All of a sudden there is no flight school helping you with anything anymore. How are you going to handle that? You are not alone, I am here to get some structure in your ‘new’ life! Let’s start!
-The first thing you do is get a job somewhere else than at an airline. Yes, you hear me correctly. The chance that you will obtain the first airline job while you are still at the flight training is rare, especially in a time of low demand. Depending on the economy and the flight school, it can take from a couple of months up to over 6 years before you end up in that right seat. The easiest way, if you did not complete any other study before, is to go to a few employment agencies and tell them you are willing to do any job (with a good pay of course) they have available. With a pilot career as background you should be able to get any job very soon. Once you did that, you have some income and you can at least pay your bills at the end of the month, such as your interest over the pilot loan.
-Second, once you have job it is time to prepare for the airline selection process. Start with a CV, cover letter, recommendation letters, organize documents airlines ask for and make at least 5 colour copies of your passport, license, LPE, Final Training Report, MCC & JOC certificate, Medical etcetera. Once you get invited, airlines will most probably ask you to take colour copies of these documents with you. Once you did all of this you can apply for the airlines you want to work for!

I will tell you about 6 things which I think you should immediately do when you graduate.
