Dude... I've been practicing some of your tequniques... Was thinking "walking" notes just before you said it... Same for the alt picking hammer ons... Must say... I was playing a guitar solo, high gain, high distortion... And it freaking blew my mind... I didn't think I could play like that... Your tutorials are freaking awesome... I've already subscribed to your channel...

I’m going out to the back yard and find the rock I was living under. This is 3 years old? And I’m just seeing this…damn backyard rock! Dude, this is GOLD! You wouldn’t happen to have a similar video of solos…for old dudes with carpal tunnel in both hands (me)…?

The teaching is quite good in showing difference in chord n pull off better than what I was shown back when I went for lessons but over time I got better figuring stuff out by listening to records paying close attention to what was going on in the song

14:00 you nailed it about transitions, you write some cool riffs but without those transitions between them it feels like riff salad. Another cool thing is if your verse riff had a lot of pedalling the low E note, make your chorus start on like a B power chord (7th fret E string) or some other chord in the key, really reinforces the fact it's a different section. This idea can be reversed of course, just finding ways to contrast verse and chorus is the basic theme. Could do it with different rhythms too and something called 'harmonic rhythm' which is just how fast the chords change. Changing mode/scale between sections is also highly effective. Like start in E minor then go to E phrygian... that's done a lot in metal too. Even though you only changing one note in the scale it has a huge change to the feel, and it's easy to remember cos it's only one note! Nice vid I been trying to get my metal rhythm chops back after exploring other genres for a while... my forearm hurts lol.

Thank you, dude. Those are some great points you made about changing keys....that make a huge difference because most metal bands play every song, every part in the same key!

Also with the palm muting if you feel your pressing too hard move your hand back toward the bridge and just try to see the range of mute tones you can get from fully muted completely over the strings back to the lightest mute you can get hand mostly on the bridge barely hanging past it

@ 7:45 ish When hitting the power chord in the different way 4 instead of 5 is that simply adding some dissonance into it or tension to the tone, and by doing this will it take you out of tune with others requiring the others to play the same notes respectfully so it doesnt sound..off?
@jasonstallworth
@jasonstallworth 3 жыл бұрын
It depends on what key you're playing in. Also, in this particular case I would not stay on those notes but move from that to a regular power chord
