Cheers my man. I've had a leak and was worried so I got up there with the right ladders etc. You're right enough.. My flashing and bricks were letting water through. All sorted now.. Awesome video man.

Very cool. We have a lot of snow and usually fine when I light the fireplace but today water is showing at the bottom, inside. The fire 🔥 is still cracking and roaring. It’s been and epic year for ice dams and icicles!!! I have roof shoveled but needs to be done again. The sun is shines today... anyway after winter ❄️ I’ll check out all these areas. Cool old house.

I had chimney work done, new crown, cap, and stainless steel liner. The chimney is bleeding water in the attic. A squirrel nest was removed also. Any guesses?
@iancurtis53974 ай бұрын
Did you ever figure it out? Could very well be the brick itself and bad mortar joints allowing water to seep through.

My closet is leaking water. It is negative 16 and was below zero the last couple days. What/where is it so hot it’s melting the snow. Can you give me advice.
@davidchi1277Ай бұрын
Build the chimney with a lead tray through it just above the intersection with the roof.
@DRJMF13 жыл бұрын
The chimney that you show us had no lip below the crown thus water can roll down the chimney masonry instead of dripping passed the masonry making it impossible to penetrate masonary.
@murraylonsdale306922 күн бұрын
.. so how you gonna make a drip edge on that chimney ? rainwater running off that tiny crown (or 'flaunching' as we call it in UK) won't amount to a hill of beans in this crazy world.

Thanks for video. My chimney cover is flat and I think contributing to a leak into the fireplace. I am going to add some Bergstrom seal to the interface between cap and flute. Is there anyway to add a”crown” to a flat metal cap?
@rooftopchimneysweeps652320 күн бұрын
You can't add it to an existing metal chase cover, but we solve that problem by having them fabricated with brakes from the collar to the corners to create a slope that sheds water.

I bought a 12x8x24 clay flue liner that I want to install for a pizza oven that I am building out of perlite/ Portland cement. The flue is heavy. I was thinking of putting the flue inside the hole I made and securing it with refractory mortar mix. Do you think that once it dries, it’ll hold? Any advice would help!

I couldn't figure out where my roof was leaking after numerous rain storms. Finally i took out a loan and bought 136 five gallon buckets of roof tar. I covered the whole roof and the whole chimney and all the bricks of my home including all the windows. Its really dark in here but no leaks!

A chimney cap should cover the entire top of the chimney to shed water away. That cap is a liner cap and all the water that lands on it is dumped directly on top of the chimney. The flashing should have been replaced, not sprayed with flex seal and the termination of that liner is a joke.

All of the possibilities seem to take water down the inside of the chimney. I have a leak seemingly around the outside but see no reason for leaks
@SeanBaker4 жыл бұрын
When you say leak around the outside, where specifically do you see the leak? Did you figure out by now?
@paraglidingnut263 жыл бұрын
As a contractor myself, most homeowner's won't be on the roof, ever. Fix the leaks and the home owners are happy. In your video, that chimney should have a drip edge. Otherwise water dripping down the brick & mortar will cause more leaks.
@murraylonsdale306922 күн бұрын
.. yep 6 ways .. but if you've got water stains on the chmney breast (or close to it) in an upstairs room it will be poorly installed or missing or perished flashings 97% of the time.
@rooftopchimneysweeps652320 күн бұрын
You'd be shocked how often that is not the case. Bad flashing will definitely give you water leaks 100% of the time, but probably 90% of what we get called to is actually the result of saturation caused by several of these factors happening simultaneously
