I drove the 25E way from Newport to Asheville. 71 minutes of no cell phone signal. No bark on the trees. Thanks to God that the river crossings survived to keep 25E/70 open. 10 miles long traffic backup coming into Hot Springs Sunday afternoon. I actually had to do this same detour the last time I-40 washed away in August 2004 from Francis. I was 100 miles from the washout location when it happened in '04. I was enroute to Jupiter FL to replace the roof that Francis destroyed on my house. I tried the Atlanta detour in October and decided to give 25E a shot this week. Yes, they are NOT telling the truth. People that live there tell of many more people that have died in just one lake! They said ALL of the homeless, which was a large population are completely gone. The volunteer woman supplied food for a funeral for a family in which 10 members of one family died! The reported number CANNOT be right. The counties, state and other organizations have all given up on finding missing people or recovery of dead bodies. So now the local people are using cadaver dogs and are still finding dead bodies, they found 8 bodies recently and body parts. I believe that there are many more hundreds or thousand that are not being reported that have died. They are still JUST FINDING people stranded in their houses yesterday in the mountains that desperately needed supplies. There still are people out there that have not been found yet , that are alive! An elderly couple that was staying in a tent with no where to go , were found dead of hypothermia, by people that checked the tent. This all is so wrong. These people have been abandoned by the Governor, FEMA and other government help and the RED CROSS. They have all pulled out as told by the North Carolinians. Their job is to provide relief for the people after a disaster, like this flood, and provide safe shelter and food , water and supplies to live.
