Smelling death in western NC is BS. I spent the entire weekend there (Wilkes county native assisting Yancey and Buncombe counties). I found my sister dead in the bathroom when I was 8. When I was 17 I helped my parents landlord clean up the remains of a drug addict that overdosed and rotted in his house for 3 weeks. I know the smell of death. It ain’t there. It’s river stank and city slickers don’t know the smell.

There are no different breeds in a disaster....everyone looks exactly the same when rescuing someone else, rebuilding their home or business, or delivering supplies. Many of the National Guard, volunteer firemen/women, and others could pay someone to take their place, but they never do. In my Southern family, a "good old boy" is someone who does the right thing when given a choice.

You are so right ! I just can’t wrap my brain around all of the destruction. I’m 76 with major health issues, but if possible I’d be there doing what I could. Finally bought a freezer, put my summer produce away in it... I had trepidation but it's so much easier than canning ( getting old😬). One of the worst things: hauling all that food and work spent Off to the Dump. I will be canning from now on. It'll have to take my whole home to get to it then. My sister and her husband donated their RV for a Family to live in when a bad storm hit Florida years ago. IM SURPRISED that others aren't donating their older Rvs so some of these people don't have at least a roof over their heads espwith Winter soon upon us. PLUS, They need to clear-out areas and get Some type of camp sites for these people where a commonwealth is with easy access for the People donating food, supplies, etc...little communities!

I'm sorry this happened.... So sad for you survivors. I lost everything in a house fire! It's devastating, you can't see yourself EVER getting over it BUT, you do!! And one of the things that i experienced is, just what's REALLY IMPORTANT in life!!! You can't take any of "It" with you!! The lives of your loved ones and still being able to wrap your arms around them, if all that matters at this point! Good speed at cleaning this up and you getting your lives back!! It might look different than what it was but, you're alive and life will continue ❤❤❤❤

When Iost my home, no insurance ,no money to build back, My three children wrapped their arms around me and said, mommy I love you. ( I was so glad they had been taught about Jesus ) We found comfort in knowing our lives wasn't lost and because Jesus lives we could face tomorrow. Years ago but how this brings back memories
