I have a Heeler and she learned all of her commands the first month I brought her home (she was a 5-month old puppy). She’s now 6 years old and has retained all of her training. I now have a cat who is mostly indoors, but when I let him out, and she makes sure he doesn’t go beyond a certain perimeter. He doesn’t know how to climb trees or fences and prefers to lounge around in shady areas and she’ll be there next to him. When it’s time to get inside, she’ll ‘herd’ him inside.

I worked at a kennel and there was one Blue Heeler that was obsessed with his red leash and was like Jekyll and Hyde and you had to have it or he would act completely different.

I just adopted a 1-year-old heeler yesterday. Can't take him home just yet, hopefully in a few days. It was incredible, as soon as I put him on a leash and took him out of his cage he wouldn't leave my feet. Even walking, he tripped me up a few times. When I would stop he would frequently sit on my feet. Then when some other people with kids walked by he would kind of hide behind my legs. He also seemed to like walking right behind me, like, again tripping me up. He has basically no formal training, doesn't recognize his name, is a stray just shipped from California 2 days earlier, with no known past, yet, he walked on a leash like a champ, and was one of the nicest dogs I have ever met. Your new baby is both protecting (in her mind) AND getting comfort ( and also in 3:48 her mind...protection from you thinking maybe they need protection). My 2 sit on or at my feet after they "kill" the UPS truck......they HATE that truck and will eat the tires. Extremely lucky they haven't been run over. I've tried EVERYTHING but Caesar Malone to break them of this. Comes back to that "hearding" instinct!!!!

I just got a blue heeler pup two days ago and he is so intelligent. He has been very easy to train, and he of course loves to sit on my feet 😭

I'm a new mama to a Red, have you found that while you feel that they understand the expectation they will misbehave to convey their feelings?

Does ur pup stare& bark at u for an unknown reason? At1st I think !bathroom time! But even after we r sure that is not it he will continue even seems to get frustrated that I'm not understanding what he is trying to communicate? FYI this will occure at diff times b4/after feedings & confirming it isn't him needing to go out. He will even become a bit aggressive as if he is frustrated that I do not understand

Smartest dog i have ever had or been around. I have no doubt that she knows english. I can tell her to go get her blue Frisbee and she'll pass her other Frisbee to find the blue one. Same with tennis ball over her orange ball.

My childhood dog was definitely a blue heeler mix of sorts and i only figured it out after she died. She was from Tennessee, rescued from Hurricane Katrina. Mixed with border collie perhaps. When i was a kid, she tried to herd us. Mostly i know she was this breed because she looked exactly like them except she was black and that cookies and cream color.

On the search for some add info/training suggestions. Anyone else have a austrillian cattle dog/heeler? If so does urs not only stare&yip (bark) at u? And become a bit aggressive bcuz u dnt understand( B4 anyone asks yes when this starts 1st thing we do is take him o/s, he is fed, has water)

Got to be the leader. Outdoor runs/walks won't be enough. Command training for you and your dog. Agility training. Once you get your leadership skills down your heeler won't be as much as a dick lol. They still test boundaries but with a firm command they'll snap out of it. Very intelligent breed. You need to work mind and body or they will work you.

This advise while correct is frustrating, outside of the herding this is the exact same video you just posted for the German shepherd.

What's weird is the word 'behaviours' (behavior if you can't spell English correctly). The word 'behaviour' is a mass noun; IT DOESN"T HAVE A PLURAL.

Blue and Red Heelers are the same dog, from the same litter, same mom, the color is irrelevant, STOP SAYING BLUE HEELER ALL THE TIME.
