From a 16 year paramedic, I’ve got two watches in my collection that I have used to save a patient’s life, both are Casio’s. One, the GW-9400, I used to check ambient temperature to help cool down and severe heat stroke patient, and the other, the Duro, I’ve used to time a sick patient’s pulse and breathing rate while I waited with one of my home health patients to get picked up by EMS. Both patients ended up surviving.

I’m with you on the gw9400! I think the mudman has a better display, but for $200 and having the mud resist buttons, the rangeman is hard to beat for having the same functions.

The Instinct Solar display can be switched to a positive. Its a display choice in settings. All the Instincts do the same

I’ve had the Garmin Instinct 2X Solar Tactical for maybe 6 months. I use it for sleep stats and to track health metrics. Like it.

I think some of the high end Apple watches have the feature where you can request a rescue from the field. I don't think any of the G-Shocks have that do they? Isn't the GPS more for sports features? (I'm not up to date on all the models they make since I'm very happy with my basic GBD-200) But even if Apple watches were in my budget I REALLY don't like having to recharge my watch all the time. For me that's a deal breaker with most smart watches. And really all I would want from it is the sleep tracking which means I can't recharge it at night. 😬 Plus there are phone apps that do sleep tracking without needing anything wearable.

Can't beat a Casio for tough. I've got the GPR B1000 and an old Pathfinder (PAG 50T). Both too big for EDC but I occasionally wear one if I'm trail riding in rough country. MY EDC is a Garmin Enduro 3. Maps are very handy. Flashlight for signaling. Crash alert mode (I've got that turned off. I crash a lot). I carry a ACR Resqlink + for real emergencies.

I am going to choose strongly disagree on the casio twin sensor. I have owned it for 3 years and stopped calibrating the compass about 2 years ago. The compass completely loses calibration after about 2 or 3 weeks. I could hit the compass button, anf have the North arrow point at the 6 o'clock. Then I would turn the watch 180 degrees and have the compass point north at 6 o'clock, same for another 90 degree turn etc etc.

Suunto core is my choice. But 1 year battery is killing me. May be you know any night operational watch with solar?

The 2x solar tactical and non tactical have a 42mm version and the non tactical version also supports MGRS (military digital reference) and has a red light instead of green. If u don’t need the night vision then your should be okay.
