You did exactly what I was going to do with my fake moonswatch! I figured out how to remove the case back in seconds. I can do it without a tool it’s that cheap and loose. The fake dial looks so good that I decided to put it in a better case. I’m glad I saw this I will be doing it to my “Jupiter” swatch.

Cool to see I'm not the only one who has taken a fake MoonSwatch and thrown the movement into a metal case. I did this several years ago when MoonSwatches were impossible to get. I don't have a 3D printer to make a movement ring, but I found the movement ring that came with the watch worked just fine. In regards to the Snoopy Moonphase, I would have liked to have seen Swatch put a blue bezel on it similar to the Snoopy Speedy. Was hoping you would do that with the one in this video, but the black still looks good.

I was actually hoping he wouldn’t destroy it after seeing it in the new enclosure. My gf and I got this watch, one in black the other in white. She loves it. I was excited at the Swatch store; but after getting home it felt like this Power Rangers toy watch I got at McDonald’s as kid - not a bad thing; they had some cool toys once upon a time.

Have you had issues with the chrono part of the movement? I have seen those movements in the past stop working after 45 min and it stops and resets itself.

Seems nice for an everyday watch that you don’t have to worry about getting stollen or destroyed. Can the case back glass be see through? I would want to cut to size a picture of my family if I were to do this.

I think the ending is appropriate. I don't particularly like seeing most things destroyed. The Moonswatch is probably an exception, though. I don't see how it could possibly have been worse. With that one, they burned their reputation to the ground in my view but I do feel sorry for anyone who imagines that Swatch group still has some ethics and might waste their money as a result.

I think the eta 251.272 is an earlier iteration of this movement but is serviceable? So long as you could source the dial you could potentially build a serviceable metal case moon swatch.

Possibly?? The biggest hurdle would be the dial lining up with the new movement. The holes for the subdials and the dial pegs that hold it to the movement would have to be precisely the same.

Thanks for this, I've already pre-ordered the parts and most arrived today, including stems and a movement holder. What problems did the replica stem being 1MM too short cause?

It didn't fully click into the run position until one or two threads caught. This causes the minute hand to rotate a few minutes counter clockwise (as you're screwing the crown down) before clicking and staying in position. More of a pita than anything else. And your mileage may vary. I just set the time five minutes ahead before screwing the crown in.

No, your movement would just be rattling around loose inside the case.

If it is for yourself just try some cardboard between the case and movement and some between the movement and caseback. But the best solution is to find a printshop nearby.

I tend to think of the words replica and counterfeit as synonymous. Homage is the term for a watch that copies the design, but slaps their own name on it. The Submariner is a prime example... 100s of homages.

I do not get the point. When I wanted a metal fake Omega Speedmaster, I simply would take a ST19 or VK 63 movement put it in a metal case and put a fake Omega dial on it. You would have a better movement and less of work and risk of damage.

I wouldn't destroy it. If you mod a watch you've already taken it from genuine so personally I don't see the problem with having a non genuine mod. The Moonswatch is already a 'homage' so... The white strap was nice.

See, Omega/Swatch and Blancpain both found out the hard way that using the Chinese to build your overpriced pieces of plastic, that the Chinese are day zero out there with 1:1 replicas because for every watch they made for Swatch and Blancpain, they had turned out 5 to be sold on Aliexpress.
