Pulling my crewboat out of the Lower Mississippi River today. The twin Yamaha F-250's fell apart at 1,850 hrs. Going with twin 300 Suzukis. This boat is ran hard doing crew changes, emergency transport, mechanic transport, parts transport to towboats... I used to be a Suzuki dealer. Went to school, applied for 100 Ton Vessel MMC so now i basically live on this river on call 24/7-365. I have Suzukis on my personal boats. Great engines and reliable. This will be a heck of a test for the 300's.

Yeah we’ve been happy with our Suzuki’s so far! If you don’t mind, can you send us some updates on how your work motors do overtime? I’ve heard some Tow Boat guys getting 4 or 5000 hours on them. I’d be curious how yours do and compared to how they are run and maintained.

My wife and I bought a boat and went with a Suzuki. We like it so far, but I won't talk too loud yet as it's only three years old. I talk to people with Yamaha's, Mercury's and Honda's and I hear mainly good things about them all. (Mainly people trash talking the other brands) Good dealership and service is the most important.

I bought a 238 Sea Pro in 2020 with a 300 on it, ive had some experience with Suzuki, i had a 06 Key West center console with a 140 on it, loved it, so i only have about 160 hours on the 300 but so far so good, i find them very easy to maintain, my 300 came with the 4 blade prop....

I have a rib in the agean see, twin 300 Suzuki apx,, never had a problem and I made about 350 hours. So happy of them because in my opinion for long cruise that I do they are the best, no annoying noise, great fuel consumption, very good reliability… I don’t care if my engine just do few knots less than a mercury or Yamaha
@ReelHazardous2 жыл бұрын
Yeah the reliability of those engines has been the best! I’m not looking for fast or fancy. Just need a motor that will start everytime.

I have a Suzuki Df40A. I had absolutely no knowledge of an engine and just introduced myself to my engine. I had to make it faster (for 7 USD) and my fuel pump coroded so I had to clean the tank behind the manofold. But my engine is 5 years old. Single engine on a 7 m or 21ft self build boat. And being so ignorant as I am I find my engine is really keeping up with me and is solid. Just ... I tested my boat with a 40 hp 2 stroke Yamaha which was much fastter. I make long trips 250 mls in open water and to have a reliabla engine with 0.5 liters on 1 km is not too bad. What I dont like is all these sensors and the blackbox .... because how would I repair this on the ocean. I love my engine but if it would have less electrical parts I would just feel better.

Thanks for the video. I purchased a new boat in April of 2021 with a 2021 300 hp Suzuki. It came with the C10 gauge unit. So far I am very happy with the Suzuki. I think it does very good on fuel, it is very quite and more then adequate for my boat. I have 235 hours on it and I have only had two issues. Both times it was the interface cable. The first time at 6 hours the fuel monitoring was way off. It turned out that the wrong cable was installed (not Suzuki's fault but Suzuki warrantied it). Second time was just last weekend. I lost all engine information on both the Chart Plotter and the C10 gauge. I'm told the cable is $130.00 plus the labor to install it. I agree with your assessment. Good motor. In all fairness, it is the only 4 stroke outboard motor that I have ever owned so the other brands could be just as good.

I'm ONLY a Year Late 😂 But.. I have a 2014 115 Suzuki on my Gator Trax boat.. The Only problem i had Related to the motor was a fuel leak from some part on the left side if your lookin at the motor from inside the boat.. an my boat sets so low in the water i DID get water through the vent.. The boat is only 16'' deep sittin flat on the ground an will float in 4'' So the vent is Pretty close.. i do have 2 water separators on it now an No Issues.. Gator trax boats are hand an custom built an EVERYTHANG is Extra so it didn't come with the external water separators..

Spray CRC 6-66 on those parts and you will not have these issues with corrosion.

Thank you! I think all the motors have gotten a lot better and a lot comes down to how the owner takes care of them and runs them. The Suzuki has been a lot more reliable that my previous Yamaha’s but it would’ve been interesting to see how newer Yamaha’s would have done in there place.

Also have a 96' 27 open. Old 300 optimax motors just crapped out on me. I just ordered new 300 suzukis also. Any insight on cruise speed and mpg? Also top speed? We do long range trips out of gulf and also hst out of Jax and St A. Tia
@ReelHazardous2 жыл бұрын
I cruise most efficiently around 30 to 32 mph and get about 2 mpg if I’m not too heavily loaded. I can get around 57 wide open and close to 60 light. Those Suzukis do high speed trolling soooo much better than my old two strokes. It’s not a struggle at all and I actually get around 1.6 to 1.7 doing 15 mph.

Yamaha and Suzuki are both great but the cost is less with Suzuki. And if you want a white engine Yamaha will charge you 10x more for that then Suzuki will. Mercury have had many issues but most of those engines are made by Tohatsu and those engines are very good, so why does the ones with Mercury stickers on them have issues?

Those Suzuki engines give u 6 years n u have 2. I still have a quadzilla 500 Suzuki. Very hard to start but that quad destroys every banchee I see. It’s hard to compare engine to engine exactly and I’m sure both manufactures make good engines but I’ve personally had a better experience with Suzuki than with Yamaha. Parts and servicing has been cheaper and simpler. I got pricing for both Suzuki and Yamaha when I was originally looking to re power and the Suzuki was significantly less as well.
