Daym... this is truly the era of video game innovation. Gen X got to experience humanity at it's peak of creativity. We didn't get games made on Unreal engine, each game was made from scratch by people who loved making games, and it showed! That era founded all modern day games styles from FPS, strategy, RPG, platformer, shooter and everything in between. To this day, many of those games have more substinance then their modern equivlents. Thanks for bringing me back!

X-COM was terribly scary and dark, especially the chryssalids that turned your soldiers into zombies, but the game literally riveted to itself with its atmospheric. Odd question but since you are a resource for these games I've been trying to remember a game from a long, long time ago. I can only relate the details I remember. It took place on a spaceship and was essentially a collection of minigames. Some examples of the minigames: Catching alien vomit in a barf bag that alien tourists would vomit out of their UFO. Astronaut golfing on an alien planet with phlegm. Saving cows from being abducted by UFOs. Stopping girl scouts on the front lawn of a house, I think this one was based on Galaga. The game was kind of humorous. I don't really remember anything else about it. The command deck of the spaceship was sort of the hub where you'd start all of the minigames. If by chance you'd have any knowledge of this game I'd be super grateful! Either way thank you.

The most striking detail was a special ability called "boomerang" and it sent a boomerang around the unit about 3 times. Archers could spin in a circle to shoot arrows in all directions. The idea was you controlled one unit at a time during a big battle and did the best using the most powerful units. Does this sound like anything you remember seeing? Thanks if you see this!
